    Dan,

Unfortunately there is not anything like that in the menu. The 1800 was a bare-bones, yet effective deck. It has been a workhouse but there are A LOT of freaky issues with this deck and you have treat it with a lot of TLC. I would rather have the Panasonic DVCPro decks any day!

    Matias,

You have been given some wrong information here. Yes, you have to go through the Ref Video as a loop through with the UVW-1800. We produced hundreds of weekly commercials and many places still want Beta-SP tapes (don’t ask me why and that’s a question for another time and forum).

I have had a lot of “freaky” experiences with the 1800. When you run the Decklink SP through to the 1800 you have to take the Y connector and hook it through the REF Video then run a BNC from the out of the REF Video into the Y connector in the YUV setup. I know you have already done this as you mentioned. Please male certain your 75ohm switches are set correctly and if it still doesn’t work then try this:

    1) disconnect your standard BNC Cable (the one that goes from the REF Video out to the Y connector. Disconnect both ends.
    2) Grab a new BNC cable and reconnect the aforementioned
    3) Turn off the 1800 and close FCP
    4) Turn on 1800 then start up FCP

This should work like a charm; at least it does for us whenever we experience what you are talking about here. Also, make sure your sequence matches your output selected in FCP/Blackmagic codec. If you have an 8-bit sequence but you are outputting a 10-bit resolution then that will sometimes throw off your 1800.

The 1800 is a great deck but is more “touchy” than I have ever experienced with any other deck. I hope that helps.

September 15, 2007 at 5:13 pm in reply to: Cinema Tools 24PA pulldown procedure Pls HELP!

This thread was somewhat confusing and I want to make sure I understand what to do. We have just shot a music video on an SDX-900 in the 24PA mode and I have to capture it via SDI AJA Io.

So, let me make sure I have this clear and understood.

    1) Capture using a 29.97 uncompressed 10-bit coded
    2) throw the clips in Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown
    3) take new clips and put them in a 23.98 sequence w/in FCP

Does that sound about right? There were too many people throwing out a number of different ideas and I want to make certain I understand exactly what to do as I DON’T want to capture all this beautiful footage via firewire. Thanks.

    Walter,

I had to call Boris, buy the upgrade to BCC 5.0 to get the universal binary versions of BCC for FCP (fxplug) and for AE. The upgrade was like $495.00. This was the only way they work on an Intel Mac (at least that’s what the people at Boris told me).

  • Beau,

I have been working in FCP everyday for the last 2.5 years and I have never heard of or experienced something where FCP allows you to put together a “comp card” or act like storyboarding software.

My advice is to go here https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop and download the trial version of PS. Take all your images, arrange them how you like on the sheet of paper and then print. If FCP can act as storyboarding software too then please let me know too because that may come in handy for an upcoming music video I producing in two weeks.

    Good Luck.

  • Beau,

I have never printed anything from FCP so I can’t tell you how to do it since I just do things like that in PS. However, you can open the .tiff, .png, etc. file in “Preview” and print preview or print from there. Preview ships with your Mac and is a perfect solution. I also believe you can resize/scale/make fit there too.

If you really have to then take your new still from your quicktime conversion and scale it down in FCP and then save it and open it in Preview. I hope that helps.

August 25, 2007 at 1:52 am in reply to: Any ideas how to fix this?

    Bob,

Sorry for the delay but I just saw your response.

I cannot begin to tell you what happened. I, too, hate the “Voodoo” stuff and this really seemed like it. Normally, I can view what is in my FCP timeline through the Io and out from the Beta deck. But, this time…nothing! Once I did the whole “Log and Capture” thing, the Io has performed like it has since I have been working with AJA. It’s almost like the Io had to initially initialize and then it could work perfectly.

Everything is fine now and I cannot explain it and the AJA people cannot explain it. I followed their instructions to the letter when we were on the phone together. All the cables were exactly where they were from the beginning and I had all of the current drivers. Now my old Io stopped working and had to be replaced then I received the new one and that is the one that was causing all of the problems.

The good news is that everything is working fine now. And, for that last two weeks I had been wondering what that pain in my ass was and it wasn’t until I saw your post that I realized what that pain was. 🙂 The pain is gone now… LOL

I can attest… A one pixel blur from Boris Continuum Complete or something like that works wonders.

  • If you already know how to do a Freeze Frame/Make Frame from footage then why don’t you just save it out as a .tiff, .png, etc. and open the new file in Photoshop? Then you can crop the image or reduce its overall size and print it straight from there.
