Just to follow up for any future readers, it turns out that my version of Samba on my FreeNAS box was badly out of date. Once I upgraded Samba to a good, modern version, my problems with SMB3 went away.

Turns out I just had faulty hardware, a bad Areca SAS card in my mTape. There can definitely be hardware issues.

    Best,

Turned out it was a faulty Areca SAS card in my mTape, just a freak hardware issue. mLogic was good about it. They swapped the unit and it works great.

    Thanks!

    Gary,

Any luck with this yet? I’m experiencing a similar problem using Doubler Mode in BRU PE.

After rewinding the tapes and in overwrite mode [you can’t use Doubler Mode with “append”], I’m asked for a fresh tape after unloading only 40 GB of data to each tape. This is for LTO 6 tapes.

    Thanks,

Alas, I never did. I haven’t really needed it for VFX work lately within AE, but if you figure it out, please do post some information here!

November 16, 2013 at 8:49 pm in reply to: Anamorphic footage playback at quarter resolution?

This is happening with me as well. I’m using 1080p footage, with a PAR of 1.0, and when I render preview files, and then play at 1/4 resolution, the Program Monitor squeezes everything horizontally. My guess would be that it’s some glitch with how Premiere is reading the MPEG I-Frame codec, which they use for the preview files.

It’s probably best to report it to Adobe: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

January 22, 2012 at 3:22 am in reply to: Pre Pro Scratch disk write protected or unavailable????

I have a fix! I can’t isolate the fix with 100% certainty, because I tried a few things at once, but I’m still pretty confident I know which one of the things I did was the defining factor.

Background: I’m running CS 5.5 on OS X Lion.

The fix: I noticed that a coworker had named the .prproj file something wacky that included the ‘/’ character in the filename. I edited the name of the .prproj file so that it didn’t contain that character anymore. That’s it!

    Probably irrelevant:

    • I made sure that my external disk, where my scratch folders are, had permissions set to ‘Read & Write’.
    • I cleared the Media Cache.
    • I deleted all the render files in my sequence.

    Hope this helps.
