Make sure the input switch on the front is set to DV.

    Hope it helps,

Its true, i work on an external hard drive, but its drive letter never changes. The media cache directory is in the project folder, on the external hard drive. The Media Cache database is in its default folder in C:\documents and settings\….\adobe\common.

Nothing gets deleted, nothing changes in those folders.

Premiere just keeps building peak files for every file i have in the project. In the media cache folder, the files get incremented by 1.

Like this: Fileone 44100.pek turns into Fileone 44100_1.pek.

    Same file size.

And this is killing my free space.

    Thank you,
    Sebastian

Thank you guys, fair enough with those, but for what my client is looking for, its not good enough.

    I’ll keep trying.

    Thank you,

Thank you guys for your time!

I am now testing different settings with mpeg2 with the liquid 7 editor, to see how we can come to a solution.

I will be posting my findings when there are any.

    Again, thank you very much!

Thank you for your quick response.

We use FTP transfer to get the files, him being in another city.

Yes, the easiest way is to give raw DV footage, but when you have to have the smallest file size/broadcast quality file you can have, to be generally available no matter the system used (momentarily i am working in a video news agency) its not that easy to find a good way:).

    Thank you for your time,

Yes, i have noticed a trend in using a hard drive for every project.

But i have experience with HDDs crashing. As i am having trouble right now with a WD mybook 1TB. One HDD or the circuit board stopped functioning and now i can’t get my work out of the HDD.

But archiving and storing are another topic.

What happens when you need to give an avi export of final cut with a windows friendly codec? I am trying to give an avid liquid 7 editor some materials, but mpeg 2 setting from compressor doesn’t seem to work.

I am sorry for asking this much questions, but i am trying to understand how the pros do it. In my country, there are tools, but not the knowhow necessary.

    Thank you,

Interesting. You don’t embed audio to the mpeg, so you create an aiff, or ac3 for audio, and m2v or smth for video, right?

Then how do you give your clients the finished product, other then DVD-Video (video_ts, vob, etc) ? And when not exporting .mov eighter:).

    Thank you,

ok, so with what software or preset form compressor can i export a muxed mpeg2 with 8mbps bitrate?

in compressor when i chose a mpeg2 preset, it gives me the extension .m2v. If i add an audio preset to the video, it gives me mp4 extension.

    Thank you,
    Sebastian

Well, my goal is to put the news on the website, having a small file size and good quality, because clients download the news directly from the ftp and then they import it in adobe premiere, and they output to tape from premiere.

That’s why i want to make sure its a good size/broadcast quality balance.

Will try mpeg2 with 8 mpbs, but seems a bit high:)

I obtained a very nice result with h264 at good quality and 720×576 DV PAL. I am waiting feedback from the clients, with this codec.

    Thank you,
    Sebastian
