    Hey guys!

    I have a nice one:

Which format should i use to export tv news from final cut so that they will have a small file size, for upload to our webstie (which is gettng full because we upload the news with dv pal compression)?

These news are getting downloaded by local tv stations and then broadcasted. So i need to balance the filesize, speed of conversion and broadcast quality.

Can you share any information on that?

    Thank you very much,
    Sebastian Plamadeala

    Hi Sebastian,
It seems that the trend for news is high bit rate MPG-2.

Thank you for your quick answer.

Do you have any guidelines for the compression?

Visualhub gives pixelated results, also does mpeg streamclip.

    Thank you!

Take a look at Digital Kitchen, just what you need.

    Have a wonderful day.

Ok, nice videos at digital kitchen, but compression advice…?:)

    Thank you,

Mpeg2 muxed files at about 800mbs 640×480 would be a good place to start.

The beauty of Digital Kitchen is it has a maximum bitrate estimating feature, so you can see how the quality is without going overboard.

    Have a wonderful day.

You can not export MPG-2 with MPGStreamclip.
WHy don’t you have a try to Compressor?. Try CVR with 8 Mbps. You can try to set Short/Open GOPs as well.

Well, my goal is to put the news on the website, having a small file size and good quality, because clients download the news directly from the ftp and then they import it in adobe premiere, and they output to tape from premiere.

That’s why i want to make sure its a good size/broadcast quality balance.

Will try mpeg2 with 8 mpbs, but seems a bit high:)

I obtained a very nice result with h264 at good quality and 720×576 DV PAL. I am waiting feedback from the clients, with this codec.

    Thank you,
    Sebastian

[Sebastian Plamadeala] “I obtained a very nice result with h264”
But your clients will go nuts to re-edit H264.

[Sebastian Plamadeala] “and 720×576 DV PAL”
DV is 25 Mbps, so the files are three times bigger than an MPG-2 with 8 Mbps.
If you can afford the DV data rate, try PhotoJPEG at 75%. Is 422 and makes files smaller than DV.

ok, so with what software or preset form compressor can i export a muxed mpeg2 with 8mbps bitrate?

in compressor when i chose a mpeg2 preset, it gives me the extension .m2v. If i add an audio preset to the video, it gives me mp4 extension.

    Thank you,
    Sebastian

You need to try which one will fit you better. I would start by 90 Minutes Fast Encode (CBR) and rising the data rate.

[Sebastian Plamadeala] “in compressor when i chose a mpeg2 preset, it gives me the extension .m2v. If i add an audio preset to the video, it gives me mp4 extension.”
What means, when you make an MPG-2 with embed audio the file you get have the .mp4 extension?
Curious. The truth is that I don’t make an MPG-2 with embed audio since four of five years. Is the worst available option regarding sound.
Try just changing the extension to .mpg. Should work.
