December 24, 2009 at 9:57 pm in reply to: can audio be split to L & R channels after capture?During capture there is no way, but the way Jeff and Ann suggest doesn’t take hours, just takes seconds to do. Even after hundreds of cuts.
Even if you capture in final cut, you get the same file in premiere pro… Its just the way premiere imports files.

Try to get the mainconcept mpeg2 codec, it usually comes with premiere pro, but maybe its missing.
The sure solution,(but you lose footage quality) is to reconvert the footage to a similar hdv setting with episode pro or compressor.

Nope, sorry man, no batch sequence rendering in cs3.
CS4 has this feature, under the form of adobe media encoder. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it crashes.

Hi and welcome to the club.
If i were you, at starter level for hd (hdv i think…the more complex formats come at a larger price for the camera, and the pc hardware, like fast hdd, even SSD-s which are expensive if you’re just starting out), I would invest in a raid 1 with two 500GB Spinpoint Samsung HDDs (32 mb buffer) for the operating system and scratch disks. Then a 1 TB storage.
Its a bit overkill with 2x nvidia quadro-s, better yet just a quado fx 1800.
Again, the processor is overkill, but if you have the budget, wohoo for you:)
You didn’t mention the motherboard.
Sound Card, i would suggest anything on usb from m-audio or tascam. its recommended that even for entry-level audio mastering, correcting(such as adding gain, or eq), you should have an external sound card, a dedicated hardware that outperforms internal soundcards, because this way you eliminate noise created inside the pc, such as electronic chatter, and you have a wider rage of expansion for recording and output of your sound with more professional input/outputs.
Make sure the system is well ventilated, invest in a big case with lots of fans included in the price.
The Brand desktops are quite expensive and don’t offer much for beginners, and even for the more experienced. Except 24/7 support, which isn’t quite 24/7….
Well, that is my advice, kind of long, kind of strange, but that-s my experience.

Hey Matthew!
Check if the tape plays back ok in a VTR (deck) or in the camera play mode. Check the rec system you recorded in. If you didn’t record with the camera your using now, it the current camera may be incompatible. I got that type of error from two identical cameras… Things happen… 🙂
Then, if it plays back ok on more than one source, try to capture it with windows movie maker, see if you get the block from there, too. Also check to see if the blocks appear random, or always on the same spot.
If your timecode is wacked off, then say goodbye to it.
Again, if all else fails, try it with another software or another pc. Make sure you change the cable too. Oh… and try restarting the pc after you connected and turned the camera (or deck) on.

Thank you mr Sacci for your reply.
Indeed, i color correct my edit and i check it on my preview CRT tv screen. Yet, my clients usually view it on a pc, where as always, the quality of any material is lower then on a tv screen.
Again, the raw footage is noisy sometimes, because of low light, but the parts shot with sunlight are getting pixelated on even 5mbits bitrate.
My workflow is not special. I capture my footage through a sony m15 deck, import it in premiere pro cs4, do my edit, do my color correction, add some after effects compositions, and export it for dvd with adobe media encoder with mpeg2-dvd high quality pal settings, and i multiplex it of dvd, and select mpeg2 audio encoding usually at 256 kbits.
I do believe this subject, this discussion has been going on for a long time, in general, i mean, yet i tend to be a bit annoying with persisting on finding an answer for it, because i….crave for an answer. I want to give my clients quality work and not be like the majority of the companies in my country.
Thank you,

Thank you for reading through my self-steamblowing post.
Thank you for your reply and the information you provided.
Yet what i don’t get, is how the event videographers (not only weddings, but conferences, private party, even small concerts) have that special look and high quality dvd video compression, when they are filmed with a sony 170 or in the best case a sony 390 camcorder. I have yet to produce a small file size that remotely resembles the DV quality i see in my video editing software.
Thank you,

January 27, 2009 at 10:01 pm in reply to: why is premiere pro cs4 rebuilding media cache files everytime open a project? Thanks for the reply!
Well, the cache folders in preferences haven’t changed, the drive letter didn’t change, or the name of the files being cached. 🙂
Another Premiere Pro CS 4 mystery.
Probably a fresh install will solve it.
I am gonna write another topic on a new CS4 twilight zone case.
Thank you,
Sebastian
