thank you thank you. I changed the finder preference and now it works ok.
anyway… what is weird is that only fcp 5 hides file extensions like this. other apps I use (and prior versions of fcp) don’t. even other apple pro apps don’t.
maybe it makes someones life easier but when I type “title.mov” in the dialog box I expect to see “title.mov” in the finder.
btw if I attach the file with the hidden extension in a mail message, windows users will have to rename it.

July 26, 2006 at 9:26 am in reply to: DV sample rate incorrect.

the sample rate the tape was shot at is probably 32 kHz at 12 bit. the deck or camera you’re using will most likely tell you this if it’s display is on (in the camera viewfinder?)

because of the different sizes of the comps?

July 26, 2006 at 8:51 am in reply to: Reversing a Conform 25 to 24

in cinema tools you can conform any clip to any (useful) frame rate.
open cinema tools and goto file->batch conform. select any clip from the folder where the clips are and choose the desired frame rate.

in this way you can conform your clips from 24 to 25 which may (or may not) solve your problem. if anything goes wrong you can reverse the process.

note: i think the command “batch conform” is new to cinema tools version 3. if you have an older version you may have to do this clip by clip.

July 12, 2006 at 11:06 pm in reply to: can you import audio OMF files into FCP?

the OMF exported from final cut’s native exporter will not contain levels-volumes information, while the OMF exported from AVID does. so if you edit in FCP you’ll have to restart the mix (levels) from scratch in protools, digital performer or whatever soft they have at the sound facility …unless you buy the automatic duck plugin.

.WAV works as well (in later versions of FCP)

… but you’ll have to render the whole hour. my guess is that the other method is faster.

if you will use mattes method you could first label the master clip (select it and press cmd-alt-2 for example). every instance of that clip will be painted in yellow in the timeline. that way you can easily spot the talking-head shots in the crowd.
