whenever I ‘export using quicktime conversion’ fcp 5 keeps hiding the ‘.mov’, no matter how many times I tell him not to do so.
in the dialog box I name the files ‘whatever.mov’ but the ‘.mov’ is gone when exploring in the finder, attaching to a mail message, etc, so I have to manually rename each file. I know it’s not a big deal but it’s kind of annoying.
is it me? it it the 10.3.9 OS? is it quicktime 7? any hints?

Are you sure the extension isn’t there already? Check with Get Info / Name & Extension
Extensions are hidded to make life a bit easier 🙂

When the Finder is active go to: Finder (drop down menu)>Preferences and make sure “show all finder extentions” is checked.

thank you thank you. I changed the finder preference and now it works ok.
anyway… what is weird is that only fcp 5 hides file extensions like this. other apps I use (and prior versions of fcp) don’t. even other apple pro apps don’t.
maybe it makes someones life easier but when I type “title.mov” in the dialog box I expect to see “title.mov” in the finder.
btw if I attach the file with the hidden extension in a mail message, windows users will have to rename it.
