Open it in Cinema Tools. Conform it to 24. Problem solved.

I just tested RED footage for the first time yesterday. All the clips I imported from Log & Transfer were solid green (you’d think they’d be red – ho ho).

I think this is just one of the many bugs that exists in the RED post workflow. Red Alert seems to be the best method to convert to ProRes.

USB 3.0 isn’t coming until 2010 so of course SATA and FC will still be viable for the near term. Regardless thought, USB, SATA, and FC are very different for reasons other than just bandwidth. SATA is for internal drive connections. FC can be switched and shared in a SAN. USB is neither of those things, although it could make eSATA irrelevant.

[Dan Riley] “Now, how do I get FCP and KONA3 to let me capture 29.97psf? I don’t see a
    setup for this.”

You are correct, there is no Easy Setup for it, which is strange. Doesn’t really matter though. If you shoot on that setting, you can simply capture regular 1080i 29.97 and change the field dominance to NONE. Then you will have 1080p30 footage.

Thanks Jerermy. I found the fw downgrade instructions and everything’s now back to the way it was pre-6.0. Not sure why I updated in the first place as everything worked fine. I think the whole “AV Sync Issues Resolved” in the release notes had me a bit freaked out.

[paul Provost] “I thought you were a systems integrator? are your clients requiring you to be a post supervisor/online editor too?
probably, as my clients now want me to be a sound mixer and motion graphics artist”

Creative editor, online editor, post supervisor, pre-production tech consultant, sound mixer, still graphics design, motion graphics design, writer, producer, temp voice over, systems integrator, IT guy, web administrator, trafficking, client relations, and sometimes a moving guy and a secretary…

Those all fit in my job description. It’s kind of pathetic.

Ugghh. Not so nice anymore. So I downgraded to 5.1 per their instructions. Now I get a kernel panic anytime I playback footage.

I think I either need to downgrade my firmware somehow or go back to 6.0 and not use ProRes SQ.

AJA support just got back to me. They confirmed the bug. It’s only with “that codec” (don’t know if that includes ProRes HQ as well) and it’ll be resolved with a 6.1 maintenance release. They do have kick-ass support. Imagine trying to bring an issue like this up with Apple.

[Jeremy Garchow] “I’d imagine this is an FCP bug.”

It doesn’t happen with Kona 5.1 drivers.
