Trash preferences, check sequence settings, video output, etc. If it plays fine in QT, chances are there’s nothing wrong with the media.

Conforming means to alter the playback speed so that the frame rate is different. The number of frames doesn’t change, just the speed at which they playback. This is not the same as converting. Converting adds or removes frames to make up the difference. Conforming leaves that alone.
PAL is 25 frames per second. You use Cinema Tools to convert your 25fps PAL footage to the NTSC film rate of 23.98, and then do the post in a typical 24p workflow.
This is without question the best way to do a PAL to NTSC conversion. Check the Cinema Tools manual for more info. There are rare instances where you can’t do this. For example, if it’s a music video and you don’t have permission to play it at a slightly faster tempo. Or, if the total running time of the program cannot be altered. However, 9 times out of 10, conforming PAL to film-rate is the way to go.

It’s actually more like 200mbps. I think you got that number from Digibeta, which is compressed to 90mbps.FW400 can handle double that (400 mbps). Remember that the AJA I/O does uncompressed SD, and it has the same bus limitation. It’s true, a single non-RAID disk drive from 2-3 years ago would start to choke once it fills up and gets fragmented. I would never edit uncompressed off one of those. But the new drives (750GB or more) are twice as fast as the older ones and could probably handle multiple streams without being in a RAID.

It doesn’t. The sequence is 23.98 so it renders at 23.98. Video output from a Kona or Decklink plays it back at 59.94 because 720p24 isn’t a real broadcast standard. HD-SDI can’t even transmit that format.

If you can ignore the interlacing artifacts, there’s really no difference between it and a TV so long as you use the digital input.

I’ve only tried my Samsung with SD, not HD. Component does look slightly different compared to SDI->HDMI.

It’s a gigantic mistake to make a blanket statement like that. I think everyone’s assuming component is just as good because of how it works on a Sony BVM or a Panasonic professional plasma. Most other monitors don’t have accurate component inputs like those do. Most in fact are cheap, generic, mass produced A/D digitizers that haven’t been calibrated with scopes.
I have a Dell 24″ (I’m sure many of you do as well) and the component input on that is utter garbage. I also have a Samsung 40″ and while not as bad as the Dell, you can see a difference between component and HDMI.
