Can’t edit MPEG-4 in Final Cut. Convert it to an editing codec (use QT Pro or Compressor) then bring it in FCP.

If you need upconversion and downconversion, the Kona 3 is the best.
If you don’t need these those things or you have another device that does it (Teranex Mini) then the Kona 3 is a waste of money IMO. Get a Decklink HD Pro.

99% certain RAW needs to be converted to an RGB bitmap format before you can use it in FCP.

Does this re-interpreted footage look normal when you play this in the FCP Viewer or does it play back at a very slow speed? When you say the duration is changed, do you mean by a few frames or is it more than double the length?
Does your 60p footage have redundant frames in it (jog through one frame at a time in QT Player) or is it truly 60fps?

If it looks normal when playing back, clearly the video was shot at 23.98. Leave it that way, or re-shoot. Don’t convert it to 59.94 prior to editing.

ProRes compression is similar to the compression found on Digibeta tapes (something I never hear people worry about). So yes, it’s totally fine.

No, export your edited movie as a self-containted 1080i. Open it in JES and inverse telecine to 1080p 23.98 which creates a new QT file. You should save as ProRes HQ to preserve quality. Make sure “detect cadence breaks” is selected. When it’s done watch in Quicktime for interlacing artifacts. If you don’t see any then it worked. If you have fast cuts, it may not catch every scene change. If that happens, again there’s no easy answer. You may have to recapture your footage at 23.98 and rebuild the sequence. This is about as much as I can help you for free. You can always contact a large online finishing place that has a Teranex.

No consumer cameras will do this, but you can buy a separate recorder.
