    How LARGE are the files?
    I’m guessing HUGE.

FCP does not “like” extra-large image files in a video timeline.
You should convert them down to a pixel aspect size that fits your timeline format somewhat closely.
    PICT, TIFF, etc.

99% certain RAW needs to be converted to an RGB bitmap format before you can use it in FCP.

Raw formats are NOT generic. Generally proprietary to the camera manufacturer. You will need the camera’s demosaic application or you will need a good raw process like Adobe Camera Raw or Apple Aperture.

Careful how large you make your images, no need to go much larger than your host video format in pixel dimensions. Remember that DPI is meaningless in video. Gotta be RGB, not CMYK.
We like tiff if we know the image will be manipulated but most of our stuff goes out to WMV for online distribution so jpegs work just fine for 72% of our video work in house.
