Are you sure about that? I thought all SATA-II devices were backward compatible.

USB 2 works fine. It’s actually slightly faster than FW400. Just avoid using a hub (like your keyboard).

Calling this a new format is a stretch. Everyone can relax. Don’t let the fancy acronymn fool you. It’s just a DVD burner. That’s IT! It records h264 video to a blank DVD. These discs can be read by any computer with a DVD-Rom drive. It’s obviously intended for consumers to watch on their computers, copy it to their iPods, share on mySpace, etc. I’m sure quicktime and windows media players will support the file format right away (if they don’t already). So nobody has to buy anything new should a client show up with a stack of these things.

This is just a method to record HD onto a mini DVD for consumer camcorders. It’s a natural evolution to consumer camcorders which record SD on mini DVDs. I don’t think this will affect HDV.

Probably. This is the reason why they released Intels for iMacs first, then laptops, and saved desktops for last.

Ouch. What you are describing sounds bad. You’re saying that if you capture it as 29.97 NTSC, you get four distinct images every five frames? I’ve never heard of that and it sounds like you’ve got a bad tape master there. Regardless of anything, if you capture it at 29.97 it should look normal no matter what.
Basically, with 24fps footage on 29.97 media, you should see 2 complete frames, than 2 “jaggy” frames with mixed fields. Then 3 complete, 2 jaggy, etc. Hence the term 3:2 pulldown. Instead, what you describe is 4 complete frames, than a redundant frame in which the 4th is being duplicated. Very strange.
Definately call the place that did the color correction. It definately sounds like they screwed it up. Could they have thought this was PAL footage instead of 23.98 or something like that?
Before you call, try capturing via analog component or SDI. See if you get the same results. Or better yet, examing the frame structure on the tape itself by jogging frame by frame and viewing on a broadcast monitor.

I think you can do that with Natress, though I could never figure out how.
I think you could also just output to tape using a Blackmagic or Kona card from a 23.98 timeline. It will add pulldown to the footage as it outputs at 29.97.
