I’m looking carefully at the Seagate ST3750640AS 750gb SATA drives. Apparently the Seagate drives can be switched between 1.5gb and 3.0gb/s speeds, whereas the latest Maxtor Maxline Pro series is fixed at 3.0gb/s. My present controller is 1.5gb/s so this is an issue for me. Has anyone tried the Seagates yet?

    TIA,

[David Roth Weiss] “whereas the latest Maxtor Maxline Pro series is fixed at 3.0gb/s.”

Are you sure about that? I thought all SATA-II devices were backward compatible.

    Sean,

I’m not totally certain, but I did read some reviews in which people reported having issues running the Maxline Pros at 1.5gb/s. You never know if people are just too dumb to configure them, but it was enough to scare me off of them until I heard otherwise. And, I heard that the Seagates are easy to configure. So, if I find anything out thats different I’ll let ya know…
