FCP 5.1.1 “Rosetta” on MacBook Pro Short Term Fix?

I’m pretty sure Flip 4 Mac works on the Universal machines so that should take care of your WMV’s. As for the plug-ins, which ones are you trying to use? I’m running my copy of Boris Continuum Complete 3.0.5 which is almost two years old with FCP 5.1.1 Universal.

There is no such thing. The last PPC version is 5.0.4. 5.1.x is the jump to universal. You could try installing 5.0.x and see if it runs under rosetta emulation, but I’m guessing it would be ususeable or reject it.

There is a PPC installer on 5.1 disc, but it’s for use on PPC machines only. It can’t be forced to run on an Intel machine AFAIK.

In Finder, select the application icon and Get Info (apple-I)

Is there a checkbox to force it to run in Rosetta (not on an Intel Machine, but I have heard some Universal Apps have this)

Thanks, I will try to install FCP in Rosetta using Get Info.

And no, Walter, flip4mac does not work on MacTel, yet. (they have announced a beta version).

Will these software gaps be fixed by the time the G5 replacement is announced?

I tried checking the “Open using Rossetta” in the Get Ino folder of FCP 5.1.1. I think it launched OK, (because it was slow!) but the plug-ins & filters that I was hoping to use (installed in the plug-in folder) still were not available.
The ones I tried were DFT 55mm, DFT Composite Suite, DFT Zmatte, a demo of Magic Bullet, and a Sapphire demo. (I have a beta trial of Sapphire for Universal that loads). Maybe I will try to re-install them.

Back before Universal, (5.0) these plug-ins loaded and worked fine.

Probably. This is the reason why they released Intels for iMacs first, then laptops, and saved desktops for last.

And because there still isn’t a replacement processor out yet for the G5 quad, since the current Core duo, etcs don’t run in Quad formation, they would be about the same or slower than a quad G5. Yes, they’d beat the dual G5s, but the whole thing would be a messy lineup.
