I’ve tried to slip audio using the source setting option. It works, but it adds an effect icon to each subclip that’s been slipped. Those effect icons can be accidentally removed by hitting “remove effect” in the timeline. So it’s something I’ve avoided.

I’ve found the best way is to import audio into a film project, which enables you to “perf-slip”. (Different functionality to slipping in the source settings), and this way is robust when sending AAFs to the sound designer etc.

I found that the AMA linking helped, but there were some setbacks too.

I’m in a film project (for perf-slip abilities). After transcoding the AMA audio, and creating subclips, these couldn’t be perf-slipped.

So in the end I have to import as usual, PLUS AMA link, and copy-paste the names from the linked clips onto the imported clips.

Very odd. Importing audio used to be fine…?

Yep, if all audio and video master clips are in one bin, you can select all and ‘autosync’.

I don’t think you can sync to a subclip. It has to be master clips. If you need to join subclips with other subclips that’s called a ‘group’.

If I’m reading your post right, it’s a simple answer. Yes – the columns you want are called “Start” and/or “End” – for start timecode, and end timecode.

It’s something no one has mentioned to me when setting up an Avid project – that you must have your media sitting in a folder at the ROOT of the drive, in a folder structure labelled EXACTLY like this:

Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1

And the folder labelled “1”, must have your MXF files inside it. Then after creating an Avid project on that drive, it will see that there is media sitting in folder “1”, and automatically generate a .pmr and .mdb file. Then to import, all I need to do is drag the .mdb (database file) into a bin, from Finder to Avid, and it will automatically import everything in folder “1”.

I think this is the same outcome to using the import function in Avid, but instead of Avid creating the MXF files, and putting them in that folder structure, we’ve done the work first, then Avid’s automatically found it. So it’s not AMA linked, right?
