This is why you can now do asymmetrical trimming in FCP. Use the roller tool in single roller mode to select your tracks 1 & 2. Then scroll down to say 3 & 4 and select the side of the track with no audio in it. Bit hard to describe better if I could show you. But yes it is possible.

Pity it doesn’t fix the full screen playback issue with FCP 4.5.
Can anyone confirm that this works in FCP 5?Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer

[Chuck Reti] “Brings to mind a useful feature in the Brand A editor- once a trim value is entered, you only need to hit + and Enter”
Yes in fact you didn’t need to hit anything just ENTER. Ok I guess they can’t steal ALL of AVIDs good interface element at once. 😉 Maybe in FCP 6 we’ll see rock solid media management and good trim mode.

May 26, 2005 at 9:48 pm in reply to: can I increase the size of the audio waveform display on the timeline?[Arniepix] “o need for a feature request because the feature already exists.”
Not so. If you have low levels and you need to get into the waveform to perform a precision cut you can’t see it.
Increasing the track size does scale the waveform, but not disproportionately. In Avid you can increase the waveform size irrespective of the volume.Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer

I use the intellimouse explorer from the dark empire and hate to say it but I love it.
Have set buttons 4 and 5 to lock audio and video respectively. Wheel zooms in and out on the timeline.
(Can’t live without this one) and the wheel click performs a fit to fill on any window. The only thing is M$ changed the driver to disallow mapping the wheel but I’ve held on to the old
driver which still works even in tiger.Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer

I guess if you need to add an edit every 10 seconds or so the work flow would go like this.
Position you playhead to the first cut and press Control V. Then just type in “+10.00 ENTER” and
hit Control V again. Repeat until satisfied. Remember you can use your auto selectors to determine
which tracks get knifed.Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer

Well I can remember several bugs that were in Media Composer software upgrades. 5.11 could not produce accurate edls. there was a version of 6 (6.2.1?) that was full of bugs making it virtually unusable. In fact just about all of version 6 was terrible and everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief when version 7 came out. That was one of their best. But what about borders in 3d? Remember that? Plus there were a number of things that even Avid admitted didtn’t work properly, and there was NEVER a fix because the fault was in the hardware. Remember you needed 6 slots to drive an Avid. At least our problems can be solved by software updates;-)
Still I agree Final Cut Pro 5 does sound a bit dodgy. And I was surprised as to how little they have updated the interface.
Seems more like version 4.6 to me.Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer

Totally disagree with you here. When I mark an out-point I want to see the frame I am going to lose not the frame BEFORE the one I am going to lose. This is what I always hated about editing linear. Just get used to it. As an editor it is the true way. I don’t think you’ll get much support in trying to change it. Plus in FCP you can just type in a duration instead of ” +xx:xx” so there is no problem.

I can’t understand why Apple wont allow this. Many of my clients deliver their final TVCs to broadcast using Mpeg 2 over a broadband connection. They need a muxed file.Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer
