Just did a search for GoPro and came across this thread – I need to Uprez my 1820×720 GoPro footage to 1920×1080 and was going to do this in Compressor.

Does any one have some exact settings advice for doing this in Compressor?
    cheers

hmmm sorta of but yeah no i was not using L&T i used compressor and so it looks like its all rendered out to HQ ProRes but i am still wondering why LT was at the end of the naming convention from my cluster’s render destination.
    anyways
    thanks for the reply

Looking at the first completed set of renders it seems that when i get info in QT pro it says its HQ – still begs the question of why the naming convention on the files now has ‘LT’ on there??

  • I always look for used Wave Panels online but have never actually seen one…might just have to save up.

  • I have to say I agree – I really wish this was an added feature in v8…that is a pop-out window like the scopes where a user could see the color wheels even though we use the wave panel it’s great to see where you are at like in apple color.
    feature request!!

Well I have that combo of equipment and have contacted BMD directing through phone and multiple emails to different departments and continents in order to get a solid answer as to how to calibrate to rec709.

I have to say that after a couple years of dealing with the dreamcolor for color grading work I wish I could afford an fsi 2461 via straight sdi from my BMD extreme3d+ just because of the unknowns.
The strategy I have used at home and at various studious that had that monitor was to go sdi out from the card into the hdlink3D and then hdmi or display out into the dreamcolor. I have also used the aja hdp2 and geffen converter solutions and i found the hdp2 to be the easiest and best solution but it is more expensive as is the geffen box. Sending 1080i smpte bars out from fcp the one thing always gets me with that combo of gear is that the pluge pattern does not show up properly to barely reveal one grey bar in the middle. The answer I get from BMD is that I could have someone come in and calibrate it for me but that’s expensive and should be avoided. To make this type of investment and have such minimal support is really dissapointing especially since I am about to make the move to resolve 8!
proper tech support is lacking so hopefully they get it together for US customers in time for resolve 8
I can add all my settings for the dreamcolor & hdlink if that helps and if any BMD guys are reading this please feel free to shed some light on properly setting up a calibrated dreamcolor with your combo of gear!
    cheers

  • Thank you for the responses thus far awesome help guys!

The room is a rectangle btw and is roughly 19Lx9Wx9H

While I am facing windows walter, if I draw the blackout curtains closed that issue seems to be eliminated no?

So I ended up going to Lowe’s and found a pair of $22 each 99% blackout blinds in black. Not sure of this link are the exact ones but same brand and seems to be them. pretty cheap and less work I think than buying fabric and velcro or clamping them onto window frames…luckily there were already curtain rods to use! These were black 84×52″ blackout blinds on sale at Lowe’s.

I would like to get some better ambient lighting for the room however as I have read here and various other resources about placing special lighting in specific locations in a grading room…doing this on a budget however is my concern. If you look at the pics of the one ambient light I have behind me coming from track lighting it is not proper at all – any suggestions? I of course would not use the chandelier you see in the pic either as its right above where I am sitting and casts and warm light onto the monitors. I know some small 6500 neutral lights behind my monitors on the floor as suggested but in that I am right up against windows with blackout curtains not so sure what will work best.

Right now I have a second computer chair for a client / director to sit next to me in while looking at the Dreamcolor – i think this makes more sense in that there is no plasma on the wall.

In terms of getting an SDI solution such as FSI – I definitely contemplated it but I just don’t have the 5K to make that purchase – if enough work comes in to pay for it its a no-brainer really as I am very nervous using the HDLINK & Dreamcolor combo for critical work – there is no solid support from BMD on how to properly setup with this monitor – everyone has different answers and ultimately the best one is that I should have someone come in and professionally calibrate it to rec. 709 as well as my Panny VT25 while they are at it.

Cable management is something I would like to do too – they really are unsightly and would love to get some ideas for this. One thing i came across basically was someone who had plastic rip tie everything to the underside of his desk.

Any other thoughts are welcome and again thanks for the feedback!

“What tools are Resolve lacking that Filmmaster and Baselight have?”

I also am interested to get an answer to this in depth.
