[Aanarav Sareen] “Click on the small green T and you will get the entire thread.”

Clicking on the “T” gives me the tree view in the posts index. The button next to it gives me a list of topics and shows the number of replies, but clicking on a topic leads me only to the first post, where I have to click “read entire thread” to view all the posts at once. It just seems like an extra, unnecessary step. I guess I am the only one.

How about a preference for viewing the whole thread with 1-click, instead of clicking on the first post and then “read entire thread?” It seems like the thread-tree layout is very outdated. I may be the only one, but I’d prefer a more standard bbs software, like vBulletin or something with more standard forum controls. Maybe it’s just me…

[Lars Bunch] “I guess it all depends on whether you prefer film set headaches or computer graphic headaches.”

    Well put.

  • Make sure they’re RGB and not CMYK. AE doesn’t work with CMYK documents.

[Justin Productions] “Or course it’s not in 3D. But it would have been a lot easier to do it with a 3D shape.”

I have to disagree. All you’d have to do is make a red bottle shape in Illustrator, complete with faux reflections, then wrap the logo and animate it as Steve mentioned. How would doing it in 3D be any easier than that?

  • I did this same effect by doing what was described above: Duplicate the image you want to reflect, then flip and rotate it. Because I wanted to reflection to fade as it went “deeper” into the floor, I put a square mask on it, moved the mask up closer to the floor, so it was actually cutting off the bottom of the mask in the reflection. Then feather the mask accordingly, and you’ll have a nice realistic-looking raytrace effect.

The bottle doesn’t appear to be 3D at all, but a flat 2D object. Only the Coca-Cola logo on the bottle spins, creating the illusion that the bottle is cylindrical.

Even if you could find a place that would host a file that large, you’d be hard pressed finding anyone who’d wait around while it loaded. Do you have compression software, like Compressor (on a Mac) or Cleaner? If I were you, I’d run it through one of those at 400×300 resolution with a Sorensen codec for a quicktime output.

What version of Illustrator are you using, and what format are you saving your Illustrator files in? Are your files RGB or CMYK?

  • [Dwaynne Villiers] “On the topic of C4D, are there any DVD training series around?”

I would also like to know if any decent C4D training DVDs exist.
