  • Want to Reflect an Image off the floor, kind of like how apple does it’s imaging?

    Hi,

I am trying to create a situation where the photo of my image will have a reflection on a solid that I have turned 90 degrees, is this something that’s possible with
AE PRO 7.0 or do I need a plug in or is this not possible at all?

If it is possible does anyone have any advice? thanks

you dont need any kind of extra pluging to reflect your image on any kind of angle..You can copy your image in AE and set it to 3d layer then you can rotate and position it for the suitable reflection angle..

You need to fake it by duping the layer and flipping it. Among other things. AE doesn’t do raytraced reflections natively, and I don’t thing Invig does it either. A while back, I posted a 5.5 project that you might find useful.

    Go here:
    https://www.reidroberts.com/aeprojects/
… and scroll down to “Faux Raytraced Reflections”.

Right-click (ctrl-click on mac) on the file and Save As, but as you save it, change the extension to AEP.

Don’t just click on the link.
    Don’t save as .htm.

    Hope it helps.

I did this same effect by doing what was described above: Duplicate the image you want to reflect, then flip and rotate it. Because I wanted to reflection to fade as it went “deeper” into the floor, I put a square mask on it, moved the mask up closer to the floor, so it was actually cutting off the bottom of the mask in the reflection. Then feather the mask accordingly, and you’ll have a nice realistic-looking raytrace effect.

    Sean, I have to disagree.

    Just kidding.

No seriously, I did the same thing as Sean once and it looked great. But I did something else, wich was great too. I simply did a displacement map on the reflected object and cut it with a mask. It was marvelous.

    Hope that helped.
