wow!… sounds complicated (to me) but thank you, i’ll give it a go.

    couple questions:

do i convert the imported object to a mesh before doing this? or can it work with an object group?

and will the line thickness of the grid mean we’ll see the cubes intersecting before i blow up the object?

thanks for responding, you’ve obviously looked into this much further than me. i think i’ve figured out how to get nitroblast to destroy imported objects into irregular shapes, but the cube thing still escapes me…

this tutorial for nitroblast spline break touches on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk9M5DVpFcI at 2:37 for the effect i’m looking for… but this is just for splines. do you know a way of doing this with imported 3d models? so the models breaks apart into cubes with the pieces exploding out in the x,y and z axis…?

    any suggestions would be fantastic!

hi, did you ever get this to work? i have exactly the same problem….

  • thank you adam, i think this is what i was looking for. i’m trying to animate a pack of eames cards. my problem is each side of every card is different. how do i adapt your process to randomly asign different maps to both sides of the cards?

sorry yes i wasn’t being very clear. i have created 10 different cards. how do i get the cloner to generate random instances of those 10 cards, rather than creating (and individually animating) all 52. hope this makes sense?

thanks for this. yes i’m trying to get them to pop up letter by letter. but i have a whole paragraph (20 words) so i guess this keyframing is going to take a while…

June 8, 2011 at 2:13 pm in reply to: how to create a light pass?

aha! it took me a while, but i can see how you’ve done it… ok. so using the purple example, i’ve inverted the alpha so the white band is just a strip, now i have 2 (hopefully final) questions…

how do i isolate just the extruded section? R1/R2 isolates the thin rounding/bevel of the text, C1/C2 the flat face of the text. is there a way of isolating the thickness part if the text (sorry i don’t know the technical term… the section the extrude nurb creates?)

and then is there a way of animating this alpha mat so it runs round the extrusion?

many many thanks for your help and patience, i’m moving from after effects to C4d so all this is very new to me.

this is great! many thanks for your time. they look great… but can i ask, how do i isolate the light pass so it hits just the extruded section? your suggestion with the animated gradient sounded perfect but i have no idea how to set that up…

sorry, i’m just finding my way with C4D, any ideas would be gratefully received.
