It was my CalDigit hard drive array. The drivers needed to be updated. That has been done and back to normal.

    Thanks for your feedback,

Not sure what you are asking or advising. Please be more specific.

Understand, I’m not the best MAC guy in the world. What is the cloning step doing and what do I do with the clone after updating the software?

    FCP 6.0.2

    XDCAM Transfer Utility: 2.5.1
This utility has been crashing/locking as well. Again seems only with HD stuff. I know there are a couple of different versions of this utility. I have the one that is designated for FCP, I think. Maybe clarify. Sony has a few there on the site. I use the camera to import.

    Thanks,

Not so fast. Just tried editing the lossless QT clips into the XDCAM HD timeline and I get an error: “Insufficient Content for Edit”. What is that? I tested this on a test project and it worked. What went wrong?

It was simply that I had the view/zoom set at 100% and was fitting the title to the size on screen. Easy fix. But I did realize I can’t use the XDCAM HD codec when exporting a file with an alpha. FCP does not recognize the alpha. Used the lossless alpha movie. Seems to work.

    Thanks,

Yeah, I since deleted a motion background clip and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks.

I’m a shooter in NYC. I have the 355 now. Former F900 owner. At the end of the day, the picture you are looking at is what counts. I’m right in the middle of a major doc for A&E which includes interviews with people at the highest levels in the motion picture industry. These are big time filmmakers and they are very impressed with the image right on set looking at a 24″ monitor. I suppose if you brought in an engineer and pointed out this or that when looking at the monitor 6 inches from the screen, you may find flaws. The pictures coming out of this camera are extrodinary for the investment and the archiving issues are solved. One can fuss over compression and the rest. Most of these issues certainly won’t be noticed by the casual viewer and I would argue some professionals. Every time I show this camera to a colleague, they are blown away by the picture. Blow the picture up to a 40′ screen and you are going to see some deficiencies in a compressed format. Even with the low investment aside, the camera puts out a great image and people can tell me about GOP or LOP or whatever. The pictures are pretty. The only issue I have had is the depth of field using the 1/2″ chips. I can get around that usually with ND. It’s a nice format that delivers on many levels.

With regard to Xdacm transfer, when importing with the Sony Transfer interface, how can I rename each sub-clip? I enter an in and out, change the “clip” name and when I import and then go back to FCP, all the clips have the same name as the first clip but each with a 1, 2 , 3, etc. Examp: Talking Head, Talking head 1. I must not be changing the right logging entry but it does take the info inputted for the first sub-clip. It seems I am not changing the sub-clip name and just the clip name. Thoughts?

I went to MAC “system pref”. No option for “Dual Mono”. I’m on a Kona 3. Is that why I’m not seeing the option? Or is it something I set within FCP?
