Another thing you can do is get a Contour shuttle/jog knob. For this type of screening it’s pretty handy. The Express version is only about 50 bucks, so it’s not going to break the bank.

I have to agree with Gary, that your entire workstation needs to be set up well, otherwise you may not get all the benefits of a great chair.
You should also take a break and get up every hour.That being said, Herman Miller makes some beautiful and expensive office chairs. Be prepared for a +1K price range. HM chairs are not only functional, but they are built to last. They will have a 20 year lifespan of daily office type use, so the cost per year is pretty low. In the long run its cheaper than replacing a worn out $200 ‘X Depot’ chair every couple of years.

Do you have a box of old 35mm photos?
For free you can scan light leaks from 35mm still film that is on all negs. You can do a little manipulation on the stills to get the look you want, and then edit these stills together into a piece of animation you can compost into your footage.Scott Sheriff

I would hook up a VHS machine to the input of the DVS3U machine and capture as non-controllable device/DV NTSC 48 khz, directly from the VHS, thru the DV machine without recoding it to tape.
I don’t have this specific machine, but I have a BR-50, which has a DV setting, and it works on that.Scott Sheriff

My 2 cents.
I’m with Jeremy on this, and have my media drives journaled, contrary to the more popular opinion that they should not be.
It might be more of a factor depending on your system, and drives. But I have tried it both ways, and on native HDV, or ProRes, which is the majority of material I’m cutting on, I didn’t see a performance advantage in non-journaled to justify the risk.Scott Sheriff

Walter is right, and not. A lot of cams crash record on the initial recording, and ‘assemble’ on subsequent record start/stop cycles as they lay down some post roll, and then back up onto the post roll. During the next call to record, the camera picks up the TC from that post roll, as long as it is set for continuous, and not free run.
The idea of striping a camera tape ahead of time to simulate the post roll recorded by the camera may seem like a good idea, but may just cause confused TC, since the camera will sync to previous code on the tape, and most likely won’t come to a stop in sync with the striped TC.
This is also just putting more hours on the heads, that isn’t generating revenue.
The best way to avoid broken TC, is to either be meticulous about recueing the tape after in camera reviews, or avoid reviewing the footage in the field until tape changes.Scott Sheriff

Looked at a still at their web page, I wouldn’t say this is old timer gear. Looks like it has a color screen for programming, maybe 90’s era. Didn’t look familiar.

Agreed, when the BG noise is something like voice murmur, you can’t be as aggressive on the noise print settings since it’s in the same frequency range as your dialog you want to keep. Sometimes you can add a parametric EQ after the noise print process, and squeeze out a bit more BG noise reduction with some tweaking.
