Final Cut Studio
Does anyone know if there is a reputable site that sells FCS for less than Apple sells it. I’m going to purchase a Mac Pro and thinking of starting out with Final Cut Express and then upgrading to FCS in the near future (64 bit?). In the meantime however, if I could get studio at a much lower price than 1 grand, I’d definitely consider.
One last thing, if I do go with Express initially, could I upgrade to Studio with a discount for already owning Express?

lafcpug. There are others too. You will have to buy the full version of FCS. There is no upgrade from FCE.

If you are a student you can try looking for educational discounts. I don’t know any sites off hand but typically Apple offers educational discounts directly and you may find it for less at other sites. Just be careful, I found a site that claimed to offer full program downloads for something like 1/6th of the cost and it was a scam site. If you find a deal just do a little bit of research. Most scams have been pretty well documented.
As previously mentioned B&H typically has great deals, and I know from experience they are great at giving discounts to educational institutions, but you’d probably have to check and see if your school has an account with them already and go through the school.

Thanks, I went to the B&H site only to find out that they only ship to the US. It’s times like these that it’s frustrating being Canadian. Oh well, thanks for the heads up anyway.

megamacs.com has FC Studio(3) for $790 and are authrorized resellers. I’ve purchased from them before and they have great deals. But best of all, they ship to Canada. 😉

Or if 900 bucks is too much to pay for a tool that in should pay for itself in one job, you could always just wait for editshare to release Lightwoks open source NLE.
