I’m glad you brought that up. Did you know that auto dealers are required to provide parts support for ten years? This is why 40 years after the fact there is so much NOS parts floating around. They have to make sure they make enough to satisfy that requirement.
As I have said a hundred times, support (updates) and communication is something that goes with a professional equipment. I don’t give a rats ass about how apple does it, because my point is they advertised and sold this as a professional solution. Quit making excuses for apple, and trying to put the blame on the users. I bought a professional editing, mixing, conform, and motion graphics package. I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect 5 years of life and support. I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect some notice of discontinuation. If you think that it is OK for apple to do this, just because it’s apple, well then you’re a blockhead. And I don’t really think you are, so why don’t you get on the side of the good guys and quit attacking those of us who have been left high and dry. It is never OK for a corporation to make false and inflated claims to sell something. And it does not make it OK because everyone should have known this how they do it.
So when those folks that took the FCS certification class in the last six months or less post with complaints, are you going to tell them they didn’t suffer any loss because that info is still in their head? Or that is just how apple is?Scott Sheriff

Apple loaned me a system with the app pre-installed in my role as a reviewer, I flew to NYC on my own dime to pick it up. and YES it has to be returned.
I also did buy all of the software out of my own pocket.
I have owned Apple Stock since before there was a Final Cut Pro and it has made a bunch of money for me. I was never given any.
I am founder and Past President of the Chicago Final Cut Pro Users Group, I did a preso on FCPX just this week
I work with a number of companies that create tools that work with FCP7. I have made money teaching people FCP, desigining workflows and solving workflow issues for years
I work with FCP almost daily and I still have a love hate relationshipI posted here on the COW the first part what is consider a balanced insight into the App and I plan to continue that.
I have no issue at all with Full disclosure.

Did I miss where you will get free X plugins to replace your FCS versions?
I could see a case for doing free, or charging a small fee or charging full price. It’s not due to anything they did, so why give it away for free? If they do, that is a lesson for apple in customer goodwill.Scott Sheriff

I’m sure this is just sarcasm, but that wouldn’t really count unless they gave you the stock.
But what about those that got a free copy of X to ‘evaluate’?
Does getting a free 300 dollar app actually taint anybody’s view?
Maybe.
Or maybe those that get comps are being cherry picked because they are more likely to give good, or at least softball reviews.
Is this that unlikely?
Just by selectively giving comps to the right people, any vendor could induces a bias.
Who in their right mind would give me a copy of X to review, after what I wrote about it in the days after the Supermeet.
And there are some people on here that seem to have a very cozy relationship with apple. They are big name film editors, trainers, UG folks, etc. Some have even danced around the edges and hinted they don’t want to make those at Cupertino angry. What is that about? Does that mean they will get ‘cut off’ for saying the wrong thing? That is what it sounds like to me. Or maybe it’s just joking around. Who knows?
I don’t care if they get stuff from apple, and I’m not saying they are automatically biased if they do. Every business uses spokespeople. However I think this is info the rest of us deserve to know, so that we can make up our own minds about the validity of the opinions.
And I think the same thing applies to negative opinions. If you work for the competition and jump on a forum to slam something, you should disclose that. Competitors have a right to their opinion, and to think their product is better. But I think everybody should know you work for a competing product so they can make their own call.Scott Sheriff

I’d be very excited about FPC X’s release if I were them.

Fanboy seems very inflammatory to many, and is starting to get overused, so I was just trying to switch it up and think of something clever!
It’s all in good fun and just some teasing. I’m a huge fanboy of that Japanese car and motorcycle maker that starts with H, and will gladly admit it.
