[Aaron Cadieux] “I’m not even a FCP editor.”
[Aaron Cadieux] “Actually I’m a much better editor than speller.”
Don’t quit your day job.
I bet your a much better dishwasher than you are writer or ‘editor’.
But that isn’t really saying much.
You at least managed to get through two posts without a typo. It shows that remedial English class is paying off.By the way, next time I come through the drive-thru make sure you Super-size my order like I asked. And the fries were cold too.

[Jerry Hofmann] “Apple hasn’t trained anybody.”
And then you go one to say this:
[Jerry Hofmann] “Apple hasn’t trained anybody. Apple has been the most secretive company in tech for at least 20 years. Nothing new, and it’s not gonna change. If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen… that’s all I’m saying. They will never ever become as open as you’d like.. and from Apple’s point of view, it’s smart business. It has served them extremely well for years and years… hey 65B in the bank and no debt… They didn’t get there by saying Next years iPod will be this or that… otherwise they’d hurt the sales of THIS years iPod, right?
They are so secret there is a whole industry in rumor sites about the company. (don’t see that with the companies whose road map is public) It gives them so much publicity when they DO announce something. When a new product from Apple comes out they get so much free press it’s stupid… why? Because they don’t talk unless they are releasing something new. Nothing new there, and since they are and will continue to be extremely successful, I doubt they will change their M.O. If FCP X isn’t bought by anyone, and FCP simply dies, Apple’s revenues won’t miss a beat… we are a tiny portion of Apple’s base of customers. TINY… they’ll not be changing company policy for us… ever.
I battled with your problem for years until I realized it only raised my blood pressure. Give it up I said, and I’m a lot happier with the situation now. I just don’t care and look to history to repeat itself. Apple has a traceable history as we all know… that’s about all that can be counted on. History repeating itself with them… It did too. They came out with a preview at NAB and a release in mid-late June. They’ve done this many times with FCP… Then they updated it, upgraded it on a similar schedules… it will repeat most likely.”
IMO you sound like you’re indoctrinated (trained) to accept this as being acceptable business practice, because it is practiced by apple. That is ironic, because it is exactly what I’m talking about. You couldn’t have illustrated my point any better if you tried.
[Jerry Hofmann] “We all know that there will be an iPhone 5, we all know there will be new Mac Pro’s soon because history with Apple repeats itself a lot.”
I’m not sure who this “we” is?
I don’t know if there will be an iphone 5 or not.
I don’t know if there will be a new generation of MP or not.
Does “we” mean you and apple? How are you so in the loop to know this with any certainty? Would you care to elaborate or expand on this a bit? Did ‘we’ all know FCS3 would be pulled without any warning too?
To me, there is no suggestion of a future for any apple product update release based solely on past performance. And that being dropped without reason or warning would be just as likely. Are you privileged to inside information on this? And if so, how?Scott Sheriff

[Bob Woodhead] “I agree, and think it cuts harder emotionally than say, car fanatics or music gurus, because here we have a software company mucking about with the tool that we earn our livelihood with, not just a hobby or passion, though with almost all of us, it’s those things as well!”
Cars, music gear, guns, boats, etc. People get attached to this stuff and feel passionate, even if they don’t make a living with it. But this seems to have reached a new level.
There was a similar amount of outrage directed at Honda when they announced they were stopping production of the Element after ’11. Although it didn’t rise to the level of being punked on Conan. There were a lot of angry posts on their FB and web site, and car forums. And it was written about in major publications. I think part of why this died down for Honda is everyone had over a years notice and could plan accordingly, and parts support is locked in until 2021.Scott Sheriff

Yep, it our fault.
We should have know this is how they do business.
No business has any obligation to deliver a product as advertised.
It’s is are own stupidity for not buying multiple redundant applications.
No business has an obligation to support a product it produces.
Creating a business around a product is stupid.
Complaining about lack of performance means you’re a whiner.
Complaining about lack of support or service is childish and clogs the forum.
It’s only money. If this doesn’t work, just go buy something else. What did I miss?

June 25, 2011 at 8:14 pm in reply to: Why most of the the “Trainers” are so positive about X-FCPRon,
I would agree with what you said. At least 99%/ I’m not sure if you read my ‘mommy bloggers rules’ thread.
Every product has some spokesperson. Many are paid, some are getting in-kind, or comps. There is no shame in any of that, and it doesn’t necessarily invalidate their opinion. But disclosing those relationships, not matter how small gives the rest of us a baseline to go by.
There is a local political talk show host here that always tells the callers “Tell me where you sit, before you tell me where you stand”. I like this philosophy.Scott Sheriff

[Chris Jacek] “gain, I might be stating the obvious, but they couldn’t actually call the product “iMovie Pro” and charge $300 for it. This is the same reason they couldn’t officially EOL Final Cut Pro. I think the very philosophy was to steal the FCP name, so that they could charge $300 for a free program, and make it sound like a bargain.
I guess technically speaking, you can’t steal something you already own. But still, I think they saw an opportunity to cash in on the prestige of a name they’d been building for a decade. Maybe it would be more accurate to call it a bait-and switch.”
I said this
“This is the equivalent of Guitar Hero. They should have called X ‘Movie Hero’. Maybe partner up with Canon and sell the 5D and X as a package and call it Movie Hero.” in the Conspiracy or Stupidity thread

June 25, 2011 at 6:47 pm in reply to: Why most of the the “Trainers” are so positive about X-FCP[Micajah Smithson] “Is it just me or do you notice the most enthusiastic supporters of X-FCP (a phrase I didn’t come up with – but seems appropriate) seem to be a lot of the trainers. With the exception of Richard Harrington, Walter Biscardi and a few others, most of the trainers are promoting the hell out of their new X-FCP training, and “Media Management” books.
More than a few of them had the software a week before the rest of us.
Did they think the “Pros” were going to just accept this? What do they have to lose? Apple just opened them up to a lot more potential purchasers of their training.”
No, it’s not just you that have noticed that.

[Phil Hoppes] “I’m sure you do know everything there is to know about a fashion brand. Contrary to what you may believe Apple creates consumer electronic and software products. They do not create fashion brand products. It is as simple as that.”
No disrespect but that is so wrong.
Apple has been about design, look, fashion, trend since day one. There are tons of interviews with designers, graphic artists that have worked for years on the apple branding and image. They make it pretty clear that design and branding is apples number one priority.
Lets consider the bondi blue imac, the cube, the G series, and of course the current Mac Pro. Look at all the effort put into the design of these machines. There is no real reason the Pro has to be made like it is. All the high end PC’s are plastic and stamped sheet metal.
And then there is the logo itself. The story behind that completely contradicts your assertion.
And as far as the consumers not caring about what the pros use to edit. That is wrong too. Apple has done nothing but push Final Cut as what the pros use. They touted the movies cut with it. Used the word professional a hundred times on every page, and even had Walter Murch as a spokesman.
So along comes this new crop of dslr shooters that think a 5D and FCP makes them the next Scorsese.
This idea was put in their head by apples marketing.
Just look at this:
https://www.apple.com/pro/profiles/coppola_murch/
and try to tell us again how they are not pushing the “our stuff is used by the pros” angle.
They know damn good and well that these twenty something wannabe’s eat this stuff up. This is the equivalent of Guitar Hero. They should have called X ‘Movie Hero’. Maybe partner up with Canon and sell the 5D and X as a package and call it Movie Hero. Look at how they market Garage Band. That is the model right there. Make music, without being a musician. And it is endorsed by a bunch of big name musicians. Being a poser does not carry the stigma it once did. Lip-sync, auto-tune, you name it. Faking it is as good as talent. X is just bringing that to the editing world.
Marketing, image, branding, hype, exclusivity, being hip, being trendy, being used be the elite. This is how apple markets itself, and it is how the fashion industry markets itself. Fashion uses name brand celebs, and big name designers to sell their consumer products. Apple does the exact same thing.
This means that pissing off the pros is a calculated risk. But as someone else pointed out, we are a very small portion of their sales. All they really need is a few of big recognizable names, the rest of us are expendable. That will be easy to get. Pay these guys enough, and they’ll say whatever apple wants. All the softball reviews of X that that popped up on release day, loaded with apple-speak seem to be evidence of this going on. Didn’t anybody wonder how someone could find the merits of X in one day? Jeez, that doesn’t look suspicious. Does it?Scott Sheriff
