How about:
Did you do a ‘repair permissions’ on the sys drive?
When did you go from FCE to FCP. Is this an upgrade from FCE to FCP6 to FCP7, and did you do a clean install, or just upgrade from 6 to 7? Or install FCP7 on same drive that FCE is on?
A clean install is very important to a stable system.Maybe 4GB of RAM isn’t quite enough to work in HD?
Are you putting your media on the sys drive? What type of media drive are you running?

I hear what your saying there. It’s as worn out, as the ADO/squeeze-back was in 1985! What’s next? How about a nice plug-in to get the tube camera burn-in look!

Looks like a ‘canned’ light leak that you can buy from several different vendors. Google ‘light leaks’, or better yet, scan some film and build your own. That way it won’t look like every other video with this FX.

I thought on your first post you wanted to do a clean install, and that you had read David’s piece on Clean Install?
Installing FCS2, then upgrading to FCS3 is not a Clean Install, and is an unnecessary step.Scott Sheriff

I never mentioned turning down work. I did point out that it seems fool-hardy to upgrade right before a big project, and I will stand by that. This forum is constantly loaded with people that have done that very thing, and are asking for last minute help because that are in a bind, in mid-project, with a deadline looming.
I think you are showing up late for the party, anyone that hasn’t noticed that the world has moved on to HD, isn’t keeping up with the times. -
You should do a search on this topic. It was covered extensively last summer.
That being said, upgrading right before starting a big new project is a train wreck waiting to happen. The time to do this would have been before a big new project came along, so that any glitches didn’t jeopardize your clients project. I also don’t think it is right to learn a new piece of software, and beta test your system on the clients nickle, unless your upfront about it, and charge accordingly.
You didn’t say what your hardware was, but based on you mentioning Tiger you may not be able to run FCS3 aka Final Cut 7, on your system. -
I know what you mean about the Contour, I have one, and it performs OK, but I’m used to the weighted jogger on linear systems like CMX, Sony, and the Contour took a while to get used to. The Euphonix costs a lot more than the Contour, but if your used to a ‘real’ jogger, it might be worth it.

So recording a VO becomes a two-person job: one person running FCP, and another doing the actual VO, probably in a location away from the machine running FCP. It’s great if you have a way to communicate with the VO person. If you don’t, it’s pretty much a pain.
I think the VO tool in FCP works just fine.
Yes, two people is the way to go for a non scratch VO. We have a small audio booth with a nice condenser mic, and do what Shane sez, and record the VO on a fresh timeline with a slug as the video. Unless there is a compelling reason to do a scratch track, I find it a waste of time. To solve the communication issue to the VO booth, I just take an AUX from the audio board on a channel that has a stick mic on a desk stand on the edit console. I send the Audio Booth Headphones an AUX mix of the VO Booth mic, my desk stick mic, and the return from FCP. The AUX Send allows the talent to hear themselves, me, the cue tones, and playback, but doesn’t get recorded. The VO mic is on the AUX Send, and the Main, so that is what gets recorded in FCP. To do a scratch track I just use the Desk Mic. The board we use is a Alesis 8 channel USB.
