The specs say no, both for FCS2 and 3. I saw a post from someone a while back that had a workaround to do this. Couldn’t find it in a search, must not have the right key word.
But since you say your running FCS2 on a non-Intel, I think you already have the answer.
IMHO buying a non-Intel mac isn’t what I would call an ‘investment’. For an audio server, or other use these may be fine, but for editing, a non-Intel machine is a boat anchor.Scott Sheriff

Old school trick:
A simple way to create a static star field is to get a piece of heavy black velvet and back light it with a 1K and then shoot it.
Pinpoints of light will leak through the cloth. If there are to many ‘stars’, add more cloth. Play with focal lengths, and slight focus adjustments to get the best look. Slight movement of the material can add ‘twinkle’.
A heavy studio black curtain works best for this trick, but you can get by with a smaller piece of fabric if you don’t have access to a studio.
Don’t get the light to close and set the studio on fire!Scott Sheriff

Since you are in the JVC forum, I guessing that is the direction you want to go.
I’m using the GY-HD110U. It works well for me, and can shoot in HD, or SD. And it plays well with FCP. I love the traditional VF and control layout. I’m also in the 720p is better looking than 1080i camp. If HDV is a concern, the JVC has a much smaller GOP than the Sony (6 vs 15), and is much less processor intensive to edit native in FCP.
You could probably pick up a used one, and have money left over for matte box, batteries etc. Even though the camera can shoot SD, I never do. If you want to go new, look at the GY-HM700U. Tapeless workflow, Cannon glass.

I have seen in camera frame blending cause weirdness before, so just wanted to eliminate that.
Can you post some footage and more particulars of your sequence and camera settings?Scott Sheriff

Could it be this camera has an onboard ‘motion blur’, or ‘frame blending’ setting? If it does, it should always be turned off, or you will get a ‘ghosting’ of your images.
