Do you have a precise date for the Unicorn series? I’m charting a cost-benefit analysis for future equipment spending that goes out through the year 2017 and I have my eye fixed on those Unicorns.

Why not wait for the 16 core, or the 42 core with the new Heart of Gold Improbability Drive?
There is also a rumor of the ‘Unicorn Dream’ series of processors that support telekenetic operation. I would hold out until those are released.Scott Sheriff

H.264 is like a PDF, meant to delivery, but not to edit.
I wonder if there is a MS Word forum somewhere that is bloated with questions like “Why can’t I move paragraphs. or bold fonts on this PDF a client sent me?”

I have to agree with David. It will probably run better with the 1 gig sticks removed. But I’m guessing there is something else going on. Did you recently upgrade your FCP, or OS? Download an update?

What I did was start with a fresh HD.
Install SL, then install FCS2, the run the auto update. Update any drivers that aren’t SL ready. Then what I did was put my old system drive in a different bay, and moved anything I was missing like data files and other aps from the old Sys drive to the new. The only thing I had to do is get a new driver for my Contour Shuttle /jog knob.
When I was done, all was working well, but I went back to my old Leopard sys drive. Every couple of days I would pop in the new sys drive and run the auto update. Once there was an update for SL, which was about a week or so after the release, I left that drive in place as my sys drive, and have been using it since.
I don’t think you need the old updates to be installed in order. I’m guessing the auto update checks your system and provides what is needed. A fresh FCP6 (6.0) install last August (see above) with just the latest auto update, produced the same results as my original FCP6 install from two years that has been progressively auto updated. Both ended up as 6.06.
I think the majority of problems most folks are having is not doing the ultimate clean install, since it is a bit more work, but I think its the way to go.Scott Sheriff

I’m pretty sure automatic updates for FCP6 are still working, there just aren’t that many anymore. There was also a general Pro Ap (Prokit 5.1) just the other day, and there has been at least one SL update.If done properly, there is no reason that you can’t run SL with FCP6. I’ve been running that combo since SL came out, no problems.
As far as no reason to go with SL? I suppose that depends on your needs. I found a couple of the SL features that were well worth the 29 bucks, and the time to do a proper install. Render times seem to be the same, but the UI seems a lot more responsive. The best SL feature is the ability to play clips in the Finder without having to go thru the Inspector. The ability to make the Finder thumbnails a lot bigger is another timesaver.

I’ve been using this same set up for over two years and don’t seem to have this problem, and there are plenty of folks that are happy with the 110/FCP combo. But yet there are some others having a lot of problems.
This topic has been covered a lot in various forums including the Cows HDV, JVC, and FCP, as well as DVinfo, so there is no shortage of material on the subject. I know you already shot your footage, but the standard trick to make city streets crowded is to use a long lens. Telephoto compression and shallow DOF will ad some zip to crowd shots.Scott Sheriff

If you think that saying that a portion of new editors don’t take their craft seriously, and that’s why others might not see it as a real skill or art, could invoke the wrath of the new breed. Then you don’t want to get me started on people that can’t be bothered to put the camera on the sticks, when there is no reason to shoot HH!
