I’ve noticed that, for the most, the default setting is usually too much. So I just adjust it the type palette manually if necessary. I don’t think you can change the default. And, I don’t know if that “high” of a default is necessary as a balance between really small type or really large.

Image files from Photoshop to FCP has always been goofy for me. I think I was able to get it to work a couple different ways. One is to use square pixels and use the pixel dimensions recommended by Apple – I think 853×480 and remember to set it to Anamorphic once you import it into FCP: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3027409?start=0&tstart=0

In the Path Palette flyout menu – select “Make Work Path” then set your path tolerance (i usually set it to .5)

Resolution is DPI. The dimensions will be based on your artboard.

I’d do a couple things –
1) see if there’s an update to your software
2) try posting this in the Adobe.com forum https://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator/illustrator_general
