Thanks Graeme and Tim, checked both your suggestions and all is well. The only plug in that is working is labeled as a “Final Cut Pro Pluging File” the ones not working are “unix executable files” or .txt files.

Its an outdoor show on OLN. I am currently doing it now but my contract will be up in a few months. The work has turned out to be grossly underrepresented from what I was told at the time of the contract. Out of my naiveness I did not cover my a**. If I decide to sign up for another year I want some ammo going into negotiations. I’m thinking of proposing to do it on my own system and work entirely independently.

I’ve always thought they where grossly underpaying me.

Charlie, Yeah it really is difficult to judge it. What do you think a median hourly rate for Denver, CO area would be? $50/hour?

Thanks Tim, First I don’t think I stated what I am getting at very well. I would be doing all of the post work. No shooting or field work.
Answer to the ?’s:
1-Stock Music and SFX that they supply
2-In effect I handle the role of producer. The client basically signs off on it.
3-Sometimes 1 camera, sometimes 2, when 2 can sometimes there is matching TC, sometimes not.
4-No audio support. The “talent” is lav mic. Sometimes it is allright. Most of the time it is pretty bad to unusable requiring much audio work in post.
5-Post schedule is 12 days from start to finish per episode.
6-Distribution is not my concern. All I deliver is one D-Beta, one DVCPRO HD, one HDCAM, one DVD of each episode. What I am trying to get at is factoring the above considerations. What would you guys charge per episode to post this series if you allready owned the gear to get it done with?
Thanks very much. I realized that these kind of question are a bit goofy; but I’m trying to prepare myself to bid on this project. I am currently the editor on the current season with this client as an “employee” and am thinking of proposing to do it as entirerly my own deal for next season.

[Rob Tinworth] “‘m FCPs biggest fan, but this is the kind of horror story that put me off FCP in versions 1-3, and just the kind of thing that Avid leaps on to call the software amateur. “
Rob, It is my understanding that Firewire is not frame accurate; regardless of system used. Most “professional” system use RS-422 for deck control. I have achieved numerous frame accurate assembles with FCP and RS-422. For insert you need a deck that is capable of doing inserts. FCP is as “professional” as Avid if it is set up as a professional system.

Dusty, I am far from “pro” where audio is concerned. But; in my own research I found the Tapco S5, Event TR6, and the KRK RP5 to all fit the criteria for what you were looking for. I recently bought the KRK’s and am really pleased with them.

Command (open apple) “v” is the paste command. By defauldt FCP will paste it into the tracks that the original clip is in. I don’t think you can specify an overwrite or insert with a paste. An easy way to do that is to position your cursor where you want the clip, click and drag the original clip into the canvas onto either the insert or overwrite overlays. I think there is a list in the PDF manual of the keyboard shortcuts. Or you can open the keyboard layout in the “tools” menu to see what each key does ( it has a nice search feature also).

We have a Blackmagic HD Pro card. What would a kona 2 do that is better than the Black Magic?

Are you laying out to tape? Are you using FW our RS422? Are you using edit to tape or crash inserting? Have you striped your tape to at least a minute or so past the point of where you want to beging the assemble? Be as specific as possible in what you are doing. I have no idea where to start with suggestion until I know what you are doing and what you want to do. List components of the system you are using.
