    Hiya! Thanks! That worked great!

  • Hiya. I have a Canopus ADVC-110 that I’ve used for close to twenty years and it works extremely well with Win10 and Vegas; I simply launch Vegas Capture from the File menu, hit Play on whatever device I’m sourcing from, and Vegas captures it without issue.

It wouldn’t surprise me if better devices are out there now but I haven’t looked as this thing has handled any analog source I’ve thrown at it. No driver was needed when I upgraded Win7 to 10.

Some very interesting results, Graham, and a very thorough response! Thank you!

Yes, I’d say that your results, as slight as they are, correspond to my observations. The green is definitely subtle but it’s also (provedly) there thanks to your tests. What strikes me is that I don’t recall seeing it previously…I wonder if anything’s different since the last Vegas update (but I can’t think how an update would create such a render change).

August 6, 2014 at 5:54 pm in reply to: QT Render Option Disappeared From Vegas 13

If anyone has any thoughts, I can really use some help here. I’ve been back and forth with Sony’s technical support and so far it’s been useless.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled multiple versions of QT as well as the ProRes codecs, I’ve even uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas 13 but nothing will let 13 see, read or play .mov files; they literally just do not exist for 13. Further, there no render options for QT files in the Render As dialog. However, Vegas 12 on the same computer can handle all these tasks without issue.

What does Vegas 12 see that 13 can’t? Does anyone know where 12 is looking for codecs versus where 13 is looking? I’m hoping I might be able to simply copy and paste from the 12 location to the 13 location. 13 USED to see these without issue but nothing I do now will let 13 see them.

  • Thanks for jumping in, gentlemen.

I tried uploading to Vimeo and the blotches are there as well, but once again, only in one or two of the segments shot at that screwy session; all the other content looks fine.

So clearly it’s something in those shots but they don’t show up in Vegas, they don’t show up in the final renders (nor attempted transcodes from the master renders), they only show up when they go online. Which makes fixing the problem seem like nothing more than trial and error. I even tried rendering those shots out as brand new files from the masters and dropping them into the master project but it makes no difference.

I respect that repair via remote control like this is pretty much impossible but if anyone knows what You Tube and Vimeo’s encoders are seeing that my renders, eyes and Vegas aren’t, that’d be a great first step for me to take. 🙁

    Thanks!

*EDIT* Went back to the source content, exported it to Resolve 11, carefully regraded and exported back into Vegas. Uploaded a test clip to You Tube and the colors are pretty much where they should be. I have no idea what Resolve pulled out that I couldn’t see, but I’m loving this program more every time I use it.

Thanks again Matt and Steve for your ideas!!

Hi Steve, thanks for jumping in. Yes, I tried reinstalling QT but unfortunately, it didn’t make a difference.

  • No worries, Jim. I DO have an Adaptimax ring adapter that lets me slap EF lenses on the EX3 but the lenses I have access to (a 20-35 and an 18-55) didn’t seem to do anything dramatically different than the stock EX3 lens, they just did it within a narrower range. I’d love to find a lens that I can pop onto the Adptimax that will give me the same look as the second picture in your examples but it sounds like that won’t happen because of the sensor on the camera.

  • Thanks, Jim, for more ideas. The images you shared look great and the bottom look is exactly what I’d like to see. I’m currently not using any adapters, just the stock lens, but I think I’ll rent a Letus and do some playing. While all my clients have been very happy with the interviews I’ve provided, I like knowing that I can have as much control over the composition in the frame as I can and it seems like the Letus will get me there.
