If you import an image sequence and apply shine then render out with fields, the render comes out dark and has a scanline look. But if you render out without fields it looks fine. I work in an area where we do field rendering and we have alot of older projects with image sequences from Cinema 4D and now we have to go back to our older machines to use them or if we want shine. I have contacted them as well as our supervisor and we’ve had no response.

Beware though. Shine has a bug when you render out in fields. So far it seems to happen when applied to image sequences and stills from photoshop or others. I informed trapcode a while back and have not heard back since. Personally, I don’t think they care since I contacted them recently and got no response.

Many thanks John. Not happy about the bug, but glad it’s not just me. Wonder which side the problem is from, AE or Trapcode/RedGiant.

No I am looking at it on the QT movie and a broadcast monitor. The file i have was just to test the plugin. all i really did was create text in AE CS3 on a mac pro(new intel quadcore) and popped shine on and animated the source location property from left to right and rendered out as I usually do. Could you just test on your machine and render out with lower fields? Now, it will look normal if you do a RAM preview, but once you render out with fields is the problem. Once again I really appreciate your help.

Just step down (the arrow pointing down icon on the timeline) to the end of your effects nest and overwrite the footage there. Viola! Your video is replaced and effects nest remains.

Don’t know if it is improper to mention the Avid.com forum here… but they have a post called “everything needed to get started” or something like that, and that post has a link to the plugin Jon mentioned. If you have BCC or sapphire plugins then your better off. In BCC it’s called BCC composite. Sapphire calls it Math OPS.

I actually have a master project called Keepers. Inside that project I have different bins, like Custom effects from BCC, SApphire, DFT, etc. I also have a Generic broll bin that has exactly that- generic lighting, crowd shots, animated bkgds. I also have a bunch of bins with music and one for SFX. So you get the idea. So anytime I start a new project, I can just import those bins and have everything handy.
