February 23, 2015 at 2:21 pm in reply to: tiffs with alpha – premultiply doesn’t work as it should? So, this seem to be more than a small problem….
First, there IS a discussion on the BMD Forum about it, so they seem to know (nudge, nudge)
https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17449
I did try the premultiply setting and all others but no, not the effect i was getting from Smoke…
Here , when I load in your image and set Smoke to expect an unpremultiplied image i get the same result

But when I set it to premultiply Smoke does the job , takes the separated alpha and it leads to good results.
So to get the job done you need to ask your graphic department to deliver a separate alpha and render out or make premultiply in Photoshop.
For this I faked it by overpainting your text with color. And then in Resolve you load in that new premultiplied Foreground and your Alpha as a mask , put in on a track, add an alpha node and use the Alpha image to cut it out.
Like back in the days on Quantel Paint box 😉
Maybe it’s worth logging this as a bug as of this moment i need to do this clunky workaround to get a decent result.Resolve 11.2 – Smoke 2015 EXT1SP2 – Sapphire 8

I did try it, you are right, i took screenshots, i will counter check in Smoke and Nuke as soon as i find time, but hey, weekend and such 😉
Regarding AVID, it can if you supply a PNG with unpremultiplied FG
https://www.spherevfx.com/written-training/miscellaneous-written-training/understanding-premultiplied-images/It’s a PITA these things are still a problem in 2015, but hey, at least they can not replace us with trained monkeys just yet ..

Good home computer, no good work computer.
If you plan anything GPU, get a PC in that price range.
But my mum loves hers 😉Resolve 11.2 – Smoke 2015 EXT1SP2 – Sapphire 8

What ?
Yes of course , its build around nVidia..
But proper nVidia…
CUDA and OPENCL
So either Fire Pro or Quadro or their gaming equivalents.
The point is that that the app uses GPU power, not CPU.
Which is a curse and a blessing…Resolve 11.2 – Smoke 2015 EXT1SP2 – Sapphire 8

February 15, 2015 at 2:20 pm in reply to: Grade difference within and outside Resolve, why?Cool 🙂 then you did something right..
The only thing you should never trust is quicktime player.
Starting with the different gamma on PC and mac, the auto gamma features of ProRes4444 and of course the horrible Quicktime X makes this the least desirable option.
Sadly, and because of it’s good heritage and crappy implementation in the Cook area, people still think QT Player does the job.
VLC is what you really want to use.Resolve 11.2 – Smoke 2015 EXT1SP2 – Sapphire 8

The Shopping list is quite clear about ATI cards :
Only FirePro 7/8/9000 cards are supported by Resolve 11 and the card you are running is 7-8 years old.
No chance to run it with Resolve…
The 5770 IS the smallest option available but still.Resolve 11.2 – Smoke 2015 EXT1SP2 – Sapphire 8

February 13, 2015 at 9:33 am in reply to: Kill me please – GPU memory is full or reduce number of correctorsThat attitude is exactly why stuff looks like stuff like right now 🙂
But I understand light and catering is more important….still
it might be a good idea to find a different system then.
If you have the skills and the computer is holding you back it’s time to think out of the box.
For example ordering a proper system online, doing the job and send it back to the shop within the two weeks grace period.
Or talking to a company which might provide their suite at night time.
But people. please stop to make Resolve run on a potato and then wonder why the film goes to shait 🙂Resolve 11.2 – Smoke 2015 EXT1SP2 – Sapphire 8
