  • Kill me please – GPU memory is full or reduce number of correctors

    Hi,

Yes, I have been reading other posts on this, but nothing seems to work for me.

    OS X ver 10.10.2
Processor 2.9 GHz Intel core i5
    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 512 MB

Trying to grade on Davinci Resolve 11. XML from Premiere CS6 from red r3d files.

Tried lowering time line res, the only time it works is when I lower it in the master project settings to 640 x 480. Then it ‘delivers’ a file, 1920 x 1080 with the vision small on that at around 640 x 480. Otherwise, when I try to raise it to 1920 I get the GPU message again. If I try to render out, it locks up.

Under Project settings/ camera raw, I have also lowered the decode, play and bit depth quality.

I don’t have issues grading in redcine.

    Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all,

    Gra

Check the manual for “suggested” system requirements.

8 gig men and 512 gpu is low.

Redcine will drop the rez down to 1/16 if it needs to.

    Hi,

Thanks for that, I just read it actually.

Is there a work around, work on the grade element at a lower res, but export out as a pro res? Trying to research this presently too.

    Thanks,

    Gra

You can work in a lower r3d decode and timeline, sure… but you can only render out at the higher res if you machine can swing it… It sounds like your machine is not robust enough to do said render… at least from what I’m understanding.

No, system requirements there for a reason.

Thanks all, wish there was Apple Color still. Only need to grade once in a while, don’t wish to fork out $ for the odd occasion to do so. 🙁

Just hire a colorist. If it’s just for occasional jobs, it’s cheaper, higher quality, and more time efficient, allowing you to focus on getting the job done. Who needs that kind of stress?

    Exactly my point…
    To quote Leon :

Hang on guys, the only reason I’m doing it is as I am working for free on this project. When shooting a low budget short, there are a million things money needs to go to before it would end up in a colorists hands (hope I don’t crush any egos here).

‘Peace of mind’, don’t think I haven’t said the same thing when it comes to cinematography as well.

That attitude is exactly why stuff looks like stuff like right now 🙂
But I understand light and catering is more important….still
it might be a good idea to find a different system then.
If you have the skills and the computer is holding you back it’s time to think out of the box.
For example ordering a proper system online, doing the job and send it back to the shop within the two weeks grace period.
Or talking to a company which might provide their suite at night time.
But people. please stop to make Resolve run on a potato and then wonder why the film goes to shait 🙂

“I’m doing it for free” doesn’t change the technical requirements. They are what they are and your system doesn’t meet them. That’s it.
