Grading H264 is terrible…sluggish and instable while tracking.
I would either go ProRes4444 or DPX if you have the disks for it (220mb/s)
Dont waste any time in editing with the color.
Edit around bad shots, this is the moment of truth.
If you can not see the actors eyes and stuff, well…thats it.
DSLR material tends to fall apart when using secondaries that isolate colors.
Try to avoid keys and curves, use masks.
Design yourself a nice grain workflow as juan described in one of his posts.have fun 🙂

I suggest going MXF then…all channel will be separate and you can make an ALE to bring it all to Avid for editing.

Juan, when you scale down a video on track two, can you picture in picture it ?

Yes, in my opinion , the Render Cache ( short RC ) needs a total overhaul.
1.I would love to see another format, EXR for example, that would allow us to use the cached clips and even grade on top as a second layer.
2.The RC needs to be permanent. Closing the project should not invalidate it.
3.I would love to see a multi select option to send a group of images to the RC. Very useful for noise reduction and multi layer compositing.I am pretty sure you guys can come up with even more clever ideas.

I am pretty sure you are looking at the wrong timecode in Redcine.

I would love to get an interface delay option too.
I I need to use a deck link for sound, I should be able to get a perfect image sync on the external monitor and the UI during playback .
I understand there is a huge delay when working and I got used to it now.
But working with audio is really hard when working on multiple screens.
We are using a Synccheck 3 meter with optical and acoustic sensor and you won’t believe it’s readings 🙂A slice of color…

Even if I never had that problem before, the last thing I do before I render or close something is to use “Create stills from Middle Frame” function.
I keep switching projects a lot due to the long saving times but I always need to acces old grades.
This saved me a couple of times when the project itself was corrupt.A slice of color…
