Well, I just did…
Sold the Quadros, sold the Aja AND Decklink, the memory and everything MacPro 5.x
The Tin Can is on its way, two Areca TB Raids are ready, a miniMonitor will do the SDI/HDMI output and two 500 GB SSDs the external transport.
I think its a matter of weeks for the first TB extensions to pop up, I say NAB and then people can use their old RED cards as well.
GPU wise I have high hope for those Dual D700s … we will seeA slice of color…

That would be my main use of Sapphires too.

I think we have a kickass system.
Latest 12 Core with 3 GTX 690 in a Cubix, disk speed close to 900 mbs.The problem was there from the start , with or without Decklink drivers , in Media Player, FCP, Smoke, Resolve even YouTube.
Media Desktop drivers up to 9.9.3 brought back a little performance, but there still is a huge problem persisting.
I could circumvent it be using DPX and separated audio files, but muxed media is still a no go.
Anyway…I tried long enough now and I need to go back to client work, so the roll back was inevitable.Now I am back to full performance…ML FTW !

Hat exactly the same last week..
Also it crashed a lot of times when I tried to reconform from other timelines.
Are you on Mavericks ?

I rolled back yesterday beacuse Smoke and Resolve both ran like a bag of sand.
Back on Mountain Lion I have perfect performance again.
No idea what it was, but it was not fun working with.Hope they fix it until my Tin Can arrives.

Stuff is cheap now AND super fast.
I just got me a brand new super small Areca ARC 5026 and I am pushing 700 mb/s write and 550 mb/s read with only 4 WD Black FASS Disks.

The same disks I had in my tower…and its not even noisy.
They also have an 8bay version if you need more safety or space.
700 for the enclosure, 150 per disk…if you go for the new 4TB ones

Well, as soon as the machines are in the streets, candle tests will run in.
I am sitting here ready to buy as soon as they are out.
Dont know if BMD has access to early models, but I bet they will optimize fo them cards as they are the new defacto standard.
Saying that, i am happy to announce I sold all my MacPro cards for a good price and the new thunderbolt ARC-5026 is a hell of a raid in a tiny box 🙂A slice of color…
