The problem is I really dislike the menu cycle/select stuff.
I would probably use em more if I had dedicated knobs for everything, but so i am parked on Gain and mostly use them to dial in predefined nodes.
The TK on the other hand I use all the time to jump between keyframes, turn nodes and tres on and off and do the play, pause, jump stuff.
Also here I would like a second panel as A and B share the most important functions.
basically, as soon as you are in the element boat you will join the “free mapping” choir 🙂
And if they would that, there would be zero people buying the big one.

    Thats a no brainer…
    Seriously…get the Element…start with the balls…I love my balls…
Best balls i scratched in a loooong time 🙂
    The MC has…peanuts…like a Trackman marble…
And that terrible ethernet protocol is so unstable, I would not have it around.
I have to admit I do not use the knobs and buttons as much as I thought I would, the second one on the shopping list is the transport panel.
But the BK is just unmatched.

I would have an honest look at the media, with the DOP, covert a small part, do your grading tests and decide then.
Some DOPs get nervous when converting, and you will be in a weaker spot defending possible lighting problems.
From an edit perspective its a no-brainer….of course converting it to something sane.
Its weighing 95% to 100% over 3-5 times more work editing/onlining

  • Yes and no…
They are continuously rendered DPX folders from a long QT file .
That would be actually very clever if it could know that…

  • Ok, I made some tests and installed 10.1.1 but the situation is still the same.

    1. The cache works much better now…yes…but ONLY on single media shots.
    2. When using one large video file or instances of RED, it treats all separated clips as one, so if you change the grading on one element by middle click from the gallery, all clips get invalidated.
    3. Lifting and moving cached elements works (if they are singled) Trimming does not work
    4. Inserting media invalidates the cahce downstream

Lots do do still, but fine for a playback session 🙂

  • This is the power of month of compositing and half the driving is CGI 🙂
No camera in the world can capture this, or can even be mounted in that area.
I love the movie, Daniel is excellent and Ron Howard managed to capture the intense racing parts from very personal perspective, but make no mistake, this is no grading job.
