    Hi,

    I’m working on a documentary shot in 5D/7D H264.

Besides the fact I had to rebuild the timecode from the canon’s .THM (with QTChange, a nifty small utility), I’m wondering if there’s any advantage quality-wise transcoding to ProRes4444 before importing the media to Resolve.

    What’s your workflow on DHLRs/H264 material ?

I would have an honest look at the media, with the DOP, covert a small part, do your grading tests and decide then.
Some DOPs get nervous when converting, and you will be in a weaker spot defending possible lighting problems.
From an edit perspective its a no-brainer….of course converting it to something sane.
Its weighing 95% to 100% over 3-5 times more work editing/onlining

    A slice of color…
