I am on 10.10 now and it works just fine…for now.
I think what most users did not got was that mavericks changed the system more than the UI.
This seems the other way around…
    Cosmetics , cosmetics, cosmetics…

Playback of my old projects seem unchanged..
    miniMonitor works fine…SD and HD

its disables the Wacom Panel on the other hand…so i don’t dare to run Smoke and have it change my buttons again.

I am working on my duty as beta tester which not only includes testing Resolve in a production environment but also testing out flaws and benefits of a new operating system 🙂
I am sure that the Blackmagic folk or other already run Yosemite betas, but today everyone can get their hands on.
When Mavericks came out it was dreadful and I did the full turn back to Moutain Lion, but the 10.9.4 runs smooth as silk…
So yes, I am willing to sacrifice productivity for some tinkering…

July 19, 2014 at 8:39 am in reply to: Looks

The Resolve presets are a good starting point to understand how to get drastic looks and when to use them and when to avoid.
I would get 10 totally different clips and apply the same preset..
You will find out it may work great on one, ok on two and not at all on the rest.
Also presets wont work on nor uniform scenes…
So the technical part if always on you before choosing any look.
The book is a great start, so are Warrens videos.

Actually TV is covered in misused presets theses days , thanks to Resolve being free and Colorista and such.
Try not to be one of them 🙂

The caching of 11 is much better then it was on 10, but still we might want to think about a more layer based approach.
I could imagine a “set of nodes” and a closing node that will ultimately render the stack and replace it with the cached files.
Then you start a second set and can put on additional gradings.
Like the Create CFX function in Smoke.
Or call it a group node and then render the group…
The problem is as you mentioned interlinked clips, the same restriction applies when you work from one long file and a preconformed .EDL.
One middle click and all cache is gone.
The layer or group thing might circumvent this.

    I always cache them too…
Everything with effects like this one on needs to be on disk, CPU and GPU are not there yet.

    Ok, first things first :

YOU have done your job !! And a good one 🙂

THEY havn’t and they don’t really care..
So what I do is , I skip YouTube completely and only vimeo where I am ok with the image quality.

Secondly, as Erik stated, try to help them…
They have a media encoder running 24/7 that crunches millions of cat videos and bad Karaoke and thats what it’s for,
But you can use Adobe Media Encode, Compressor, Wondershare or any other EXTRENAL H264 cruncher you can get your hands on.
Personally, I only use DNxHD out from Resolve and then let Wondershare do the hack and slash.
Also because render times in Resolve a minimal and WS does multithreading and multitasking…so when i have to encode a bunch it does it on the fly in the Background.

The third and most important thing :

Try watching those clips on the YouTube App on an iPad,iPhone,Android on any cheapo Laptop….
Not you really need a beer and relax 🙂

The easiest is to use a second track in which you copy your clip, delete all nodes, create an alpha output and then make one node in which you draw your shape.
That will overlay the ungraded foreground without tampering with all the rest.
It also gives you the freedom to grade her separately and play with the blend nodes of the second track

June 26, 2014 at 7:50 am in reply to: Premature Scene Detect

In addition to that , and maybe a little off topic but I could some improvements on the the whole scene detection process :

    1. Minimum length slider
Very handy when dealing with interviews (flashlights) or VFX.
    2. Probing of multiple areas
To avoid cuts during obstructions (logos)
    3. Re-detect on the timeline
The same functions, but inside a clip on the timeline
    4. Auto-assign tape ID to .edl on export
Right now is uses 001 and we need to rename the source ID to use the .edl
    5. Auto-create timeline from cut using only one file
Bringing in cuts separately locks them to their in and out points (no transition possible)
