I use a lot of the SilenX fans:

They are very quiet and still push a good amount of air.

I also use fans in the PCIe cooling slots like this:

This is the enclosure I got:
    https://rackmountmart.stores.yahoo.net/nerm4urachwi3.html

Slightly shorter case and more usable front design.

And I got these to hold the drives:
    https://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_cables_enclosures/jage35r40.asp

You could actually put three of those drive trays in the front and have 15 drives, but I need an LTO4 in mine, so couldn’t do that.

Also, replaced all the default fans with much quieter ones. The fans that come with the Cyclone are insanely loud. I think an engineer might have spent time seeing just how loud he could make an 80mm fan.

I have the Cyclone 600-2707 PCIe expander and it is great.
    https://www.cyclone.com/products/expansion_systems/600-2707.php

Uses one 16x v2 PCIe slot and provides three 16x v2 slots and two 8x v2 slots. If you set it up right you can fill it with cards and not use more than the 16 v2 lanes of bandwidth it has with the host system.

I haven’t used it with Resolve yet, but it seems like it will be perfect.

So far the only problem I have had is with the Atto R60F raid card. Seems like none of the ATTO 6G cards work with it, but the 3G cards do.

I have mine in a different enclosure with 10 drive trays and an LTO4.

For Resolve with the Cyclone, I would consider this config:

    Mac Pro
    Slot 1: GPU (GTX285)
    Slot 2: Cyclone
Slot 3: Blackmagic (its only a 4x card)
    Slot 4:

    Cyclone
Slot 1: Atto Raid (x8 v1 card, only 3G cards work right now)
    Slot 2: Red Rocket (x8 v1 card)
Slot 3: Secondary Video card for display
    Slot 4:
    Slot 5:

And that leaves room for three more cards. Plus the enclosure for the Cyclone can be set up to hold several drives to connect internally to your Atto raid card. And all your cards are getting their full bandwidth.

If I use Batch Export instead of Compressor I get the correct timecode. Plus it seems like Batch Export (self contained) is going much faster than Compressor.

November 11, 2007 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Output to BVW-75 with timecode?

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It took a little playing but I got it working. Much more complicated than all the firewire decks I have been using over the years.

I ended up having to set the deck to INT TC and “Preset”, then used FCP “Edit to Tape” to stripe the begining of the tape. Then I used FCP “Edit to Tape” to assemble edit the project to tape starting with the In Point I selected in “Edit to Tape”. Before I was trying Insert and that wasn’t working.

I have to turn off send timecode in “Edit to Tape” and just send video and all four channels of audio.

One part that stumped me for a while was an error about wrong sequence setting. I needed to drag my sequence to the “Edit to Tape” window. If you don’t do that “Edit to Tape” gives a completely useless error that you need to nest your sequence or change sequence settings.

    Thanks guys.

Dean – I am in Austin Texas now, but I still talk to Scott all the time. I was back in Hawaii a couple months ago and saw all those guys. They are doing great. I am jealous:)

I have my RS-422 connection and can control the deck and FCP sees the timecode from the deck.

I need to use a different cable to send TC to the deck?

I think my serial cable from the Decklink to the Deck is the only connection I have that does TC.

    Thanks,

Is there a link to register yet? I have been to three of the last four years. Missed last year.

  • Peter,

I am using the latest version of Twixtor and I have read about marking all the cuts so Twixtor works across them, but I have several hundred cuts in each of the nine comps I would have to find and mark. It seemed like a much easier set-up for me to just select all the layers of the comp (clt-a) and apply twixtor them them all at once.

Spending days marking the frame before and after every single cut can’t be the only answer. Nested comps in AE make this even more difficult as I can’t just hit a key and jump to the next edit like FCP, so I have to step through every single frame lettign them render while looking for the cuts.

I have lowered my memory use from the default 120% to 80%, lowered the default cache from 60% to 40%, and I told the Secret menu to purge memory every 1 frame and started the render again.
