As it stands now, as far as I know, there is no way to access external storage from the KiPRO… ethernet is only for control, not file transfer. Otherwise, it’s a great deck replacement!
I’m pretty sure the KiPRO does not de-embed timecode from the SDI stream, so you aren’t going to get it on the TC out. Does the ALexa have a TC out? You could jam the R4 to the camera and just let it roll.
We haven’t experience any problem at all, and often record for 3 to 4 hours continuously. I do, however, feed them from a reclocking router. That may help keep the signals clean and strong.
This is something we do all the time… I built a rack that will ingest 7 streams of HD-SDI directly into Final Cut. Most recently we used it to record the Stevie Wonder Gershwin prize concert in the White House. On that show they had a 12 hour turnaround for a 1 hour long 6 camera plus line cut edit. We delivered them 7 FW800 hard drives with all the ISO’s.
