KiPros in control room rack environment
We’re looking at putting three kiPros into control room rack cabinets to directly replace three BetaSP tape decks that used to live there. The plan is to have removeable media access to them as well as to hook them to a shared block of edit rooms by fast ethernet, and to be able to pull one of the units to go into the field for recording, if and as necessary. The application is to basically replace the videotape decks in every way, in a semi-daily, 3-camera studio production environment, capturing SDI from a Carbonite HD switcher and playing back clips to it.
Speaking as Aja owners and experts, anything to look out for or worry about withm this plane, or does it seem like a slam-dunk?

As it stands now, as far as I know, there is no way to access external storage from the KiPRO… ethernet is only for control, not file transfer. Otherwise, it’s a great deck replacement!

Be sure to provide adequate ventilation. They can overheat and power down in the middle of a shoot. Leave an air gap above them and some space between.

We have 4 rack mounted KiPros in our Studio 3. We don’t take them out. I highly recommend connecting the Ethernet as it’s so much easier to configure them that way. Make sure they are on the same subnet and you will be able to control them via an iPhone or iPad.
