  • You have to target, or patch the audio source control to an audio track. Do this by dragging the a1 and a2 buttons to the A7 and A8 buttons (next to the tracks), respectively. Connect the source controls to the destination controls by clicking on the a1 and a2 buttons.

FCP now knows where you want to put the audio. When you overwrite or insert the audio they will appear on the A7 and A8 tracks.

I guess that’s because my account still hasn’t been approved since I’m new on the Creative COW.

I never had the chance to touch the HM100, all I heard was people having a love-hate relationship with it. They were complaining that buttons are weren’t big enough and the accu would be so small that you run out of power in a few hours (this may be rumors, but like I said I never tested it).

But the fact that it’s cheap, small, films in high definition and that you don’t have to convert a file makes everything good.

I do it all the time, backing up a 2TB G-DRIVE to another one using Mac Time Machine. Never had problems with it.

You are comparing one shoulder camera with 3 handhelds. I’d personally only buy a shoulder camera when I really needed one, which I did a couple of weeks ago. I bought the Panasonic AG-HMC71E, the brother of the shoulder camera you mentioned. I really like this camera, it’s a good solid camera which films on cheap SDHC cards. The only con is that it doesn’t have a focus ring.

So, if you don’t need a shoulder cam, I’d buy the JVC GY-HM100U, because this camera captures native Final Cut Pro files, so you don’t have the convert them like AVCHD files. This is a great little camera for shooting HD material and when you work with a close deadline. You can edit the material right from the P2 card so you don’t lose any time using Log and Transfer.

Change the Real-time Audio Mixing to 10 or 12 tracks in the General tab of User Preferences or something more.

I’m not entirely sure if this is possible. I always open the master clip in the viewer and use “Shift-M” and “Shift-Option” to navigate through the markers, or select them from the scrubber bar.

August 4, 2010 at 9:46 pm in reply to: AVCHD Log and transfer – How long does conversion take?

Using my MacBook Pro (for specs see above) conversion of 1080i material is like 400% faster than the original length of the file.

You can just open the file with QuickTime Player and choose File > Save as > Movie.
Now it’s a MOV file but since there is only audio in the file, Final Cut Pro recognizes it as an audio file. Now you can just import it in your project.

This is by far the easiest way to do this. You could also convert the file to .aiff like Michael described using QuickTime Player or even iTunes, but this is much faster in my opinion.

You could try to manually convert the files using https://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html“>Toast 10 Titanium.
