With my two film shorts I’ve only ever done a bit of a different workflow. We spend a little (just a little) more time with the best light transfer. Mostly it is to make things match each other, but there are definitely parts that you shot with a certain light or color in mind and we try to get close to that in our telecine. I’ve never actually gone back in with an edl and my friend who shot the feature didn’t either.
I’m sure Cinefilm would have liked our money, but no one even mentioned it to me! Oh well, peopple have only commented on how beautiful the film looks so I guess something is working okay.
Anyway, Mikey, just keep in mind that HD dailies will probably cost you a lot more money than SD. AT my lab it was twice the price I believe. Also, if you’re going back in later with your edl then your dailies wouldn’t matter so much I wouldn’t think. -
Have to admit I’m a little confused, but I think that’s b/c you’re out of my league. I always do supervised best light transfers and haven’t found the need for further color correction after that. Well, I did change a couple parts of my last short, but I was satisfied with what I could do with my destop tools (AE, FCP, Boris Red, Combustion, Magic Bullet, etc).
All I know is that my friend shot Super16 like I did, edited and made any other color correction from his 8 bit uncompressed digibeta tapes in FCP and other desktop tools, and gave his copy for the distributor (DVD to Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, etc) on digibeta as well.

I don’t want to hijack this thread, but I’m using 4.5 and found that some text I had that looked fine before now looks aliased around the edges after rotating it with the motion tab. I tried to fix it as described above, but I don’t see these options in the sequence settings. Am I wrong or does 4.5 not have this option?
For what it’s worth though, I was able to fix my problem by doing the text and rotation in Boris Red (using it as a filter in FCP). -
I stand corrected. There are just too many ports and formats to keep track of these days, but this is a good thing. Anyway, thanks for the clarification!

I think the Kona 2 would work for us. we need something that will do HD as well as SD and analog.
Sounds to me more like the Kona LH. Might check if that one works better for you as the Kona 2 is HD only I believe.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help and advice. The problem is I really don’t want to upgrade now as in another 4 months I’ll want to upgrade again. It still seems very silly to me that a 1.5 year old ap won’t run on a new machine. I don’t hink I’ve ever heard of this kind of thing before. It definitely sucks, but I guess that’s just the way it is.

I’m really curious too!! Been searching all over and just posted at the other FCP forum here then saw this post. Strange how there’re so few reports coming back.

I’d really be looking to invest in SATA at this point as it’s much faster than fw800. These firewire solutions do have the advantage that you can take them to a client or friend’s Mac, plug it in, and show him/her your entire project.
So, if you don’t go internal or external SATA, I might look at a TrayDock. The nice thing is you buy the unit and then you can buy seperate hard drives to put in it. I’m also going to use it for archiving to hard drives in this way. You’re supposed to be able to hot swap, but I haven’t tried that yet. Here’s a link:https://www.wiebetech.com/products/traydock.php
