I was looking at the dual core 2.3, not the 2.0.

I’m confused. The stock card is the NVidia 6600. The 7800 is the upgrade.

Definitely a pro is the way to go if you have the money. In the meantime, learning a little more about audio will give you an idea of where you want to go. Here’s a link to a place that talks a lot about compression, but I believe it also gets into EQ and other audio related things:

I’m definitely no expert, but I actually learned a good bit about audio post production from DVD tutorials. Bought the one for STP but haven’t watched it yet. Of course, if you have the time Jay Rose’s book “Audio Postproduction for Digital Video” would be ideal. It has a nice CD to give you examples of techniques, before and after audio, etc.
Postproduction audio is defiitely a world unto itself, but don’t be afraid! Personally, and partially because as FCP’s audio controls drive me crazy, I’d just start off with the STP training DVD and go from there. Good luck! -

Wow, guess you are upset. There are a ton of things that I find inexcusable about Apple and FCP (like the OSX’s inability to preview still images as thumbnails and FCP glaring lack of track effects), but still I’m not that angry. I’ve heard that PS runs faster on the PC, but is it really that much of a difference? After all, we are talking about still images, not moving pictures. How could there be so much of a difference?

That’s actually a very good idea. I remember your posting about that a few months ago and appreciate your posting it here again. The only problem is I’m planning on having a Decklink (or Kona) card on the G5 along with a SATA II RAID and an extra firewire PCI card. I could be mistaken, but I believe I can’t do this with a PCIx G5, but I believe it wilol be possible on a PCIe G5.
Looks like I’m still on the dual core 2.3 vs. Quad fence. -

Yes, that’s the kind of adaptor I read about. I forget if it was here or Apple’s forum where it was discussed. Anyway, it may be a total pain to deal with. I’m way too green to even conjecture on that. It just seemed like an option and to check. Also, I just find it a little hard to justify buying a 2.7 with the new G5s available. But, if you have a perfectly good card then it may make perfect sense.

What if he went with one of the new PCI-e G5s and used that adapter (soon to come out) for the Kona card? Wouldn’t this eliminate the issues of shared buses?
