I heard yesterday that the new G5’s released in October are NOT compatible with FCP version 4.5.

Apparently the PCI express card is incompatible and to edit with these computers you have to upgrade to FCP 5.

Anybody know anything about this? I haven’t seen Apple mention anything,

    thanks

I read it on Apple’s site. It’s there in black & white.

    Jeremy,

Can you provide the apple url where you found the information regarding FCP 4.5 and the new G5’s.

    Thanks,

Tony, you are really setting me up here for being the bearer of bad news 😉 Sorry to all who read this that don’t want to upgrade:

Thanks for the link on the site.

I guess they put it there without making it seem very noticeable. Too bad – I love FCP but have to say I feel a bit duped on that one.

We have to get a project done and had ordered an “older” G5 online. The very day they announced the new G5’s Apple called us and said it was no longer available and we should “upgrade” to the dual-core, which we did.

That arrived all shiny and cute in the box, we were ready to go and guess what – can’t edit on the mother.

    Ouch!

I’ll take the blame for not doing more homework upfront but damn – come on – !!! help us a bit would ya Apple?

Thats my vent for the day – live and learn I guess.

I posted this in the above discussion as well. In case you missed it, here it is again:

There’s a discussion of the workaround here:

I don’t believe the final verdict is in, but you can get the instructions to give it a try here:
