I haven’t worked in avid since Avid media composer 3.5, is avid actually better than fcp 7 for handling broken folder-structures now days?

I remember going to FCP when the photographer failed importing correctly.

Please let us know how your solution worked out!

I just really feel like I need to add a few short things to this thread.

I believe you would get the results your looking for if you also export with “Create merged clips” (You do this in the exporting process of plural eyes.) This will give you two sequences, 1. with audio synced to the video with the original audio contained and 2. A sequence with the video and only the sound from the audio recorder.

As mentioned above, you can link your clips (cmd + L).

What I like to do, to “guard myself up” incase plural eyes screws up (which happens time from time) Is to duplicate the replaced-clips sequences and use it as a station from where I pick up clips. By doing that you can always go back and use the same timeline-timecode to find your original audio.

I hope I made myself clear enough!

Thank you so much for all of your replies. This will be aired 2014 but deadline is about december 1st so we have time to tried the scaling with next months update.

As I suspected, I should probably “take a bite in the sour apple” and realize that I shouldn’t go beyond 20%. What also worries me is that 5D and 7D is already highly compressed.

But once again, thank you for all of your replies!

I know the one who started this thread has finished his assingment but I just wanted to add a short comment/question.

I think what I was meaning was that if you in the first place, with your first editing software (lets say fcp or avid) export with current settings you won’t have to compress the video as much, and then if you compress it in AE the quality loss shouldn’t be as big.. Or am I wrong?

Just to stich in with a comment. I’m pretty sure that if you export from avid with h.264 codec and then import into AE with current settings and then exporting again with the same settings the quality loss should be so slightly you wouldn’t notice it since it wouldn’t have to re-compress that much info…

On what platform are you going to publish it? (webb, TV, Cinema… ect?)

April 19, 2012 at 8:50 pm in reply to: FCP 7 Error: Out of Memory

Does the out of memory error comes when your exporting?

In that case I wouldn’t say that the file format is the problem, that should a render fix perfectly fine.

I would recommend that you start looking where you’ve scratched your disk.. Are you editing on a external harddrive? In that case the harddrive could be formatted in FAT32 (both for MAC and PC) in if thats the case you can only transfer files smaller than 4GB.

Try scratch your disk to a place where you know you got plenty of memory, and export it to your drive on your computer…

    Hope it helps 🙂
