I understand you decision, it was probably for the better.
Just to put up an idea, would it have been enough to mask out the stain and blur it? With a nice feather it could atleast ease the “eye-pain” your customer is experiencing.

Im experiencing a similar problem right now. The editor that was on this project before me has copied a lot of .mov files that have become corrupted. They all have in common is that they got corrupted on my external WD 3 TB drive and they were all shot with Canon 5D mk 2 or 3.
I havent found any audio bursts but I have found the video unplayable in anything besides VLC. I can see frame by frame in premiere but still not playable.
The only solution that (at least temporarily) works for me is to copy from one of my back-up drives and hit “replace”. I’m sorry I dont have any more convenient solution for you, but if anyone finds anything I will be interested to also hear so!

Thanks for your answer! Plural eyes actually managed to handle most of it!
However, I have a few clips where its no audio at all (mute audio channel), so in this case I was hoping I could use the timestamp… Problem is, I really dont know how to see the timestamp. I can’t seem to find any tutorial on google either, do you happen to know how to?

Actually I didn’t mean the symbols that just warn you when you’re off limits. There is an actual filter in FCP that makes sure you’re broadcast-safe. (It might actually be called broadcast-safe filter). I’m a little rusty since I have made the jump to premiere.

Just a quick info-question… Have you tried FCP’s luma-safe tool? It is, as far as I know, always safe for broadcast.

So in other words, there is really no meaning in converting to a different codec unless your editing software has issues working with it, which in your case (Premiere Pro) shouldn’t be a problem!
