I must admit, aside from ‘dragging multiple sequences to the timeline’ (would it be possible to highlight more than one sequence in PP and ‘Export to Encore’ all these at once?), I don’t see how exporting to Encore disadvantages you.

The tasks in the list are as simple as they were in PP2 and certainly more flexible.

I would be tempted to add a larger video drive than 320gb to save having to increase in future.

  • Yes, Matrox have been selling the hardware only solution since the launch of CS3 (I am assuming to cover the gap between the CS3 launch and the release of the 3.0 drivers).

However, previously, it was virtually (if not totally) impossible to get hardware only during the PP2 days. Hopefully Matrox won’t make this the same for CS3 and continue to offer the standalone version.

One export setting that is always worth trying is the interlacing – if it is set to lower, try the upper and see if that makes any difference.

it would depend really on what you are used to. If you were to try a single 24″ monitor and decide that there is enough space to work with, stick with that. Or, if you feel you need a little more timeline space – the 2 x 19″ widescreens would give more than enough.

Personally, I feel there is enough space on a 24″ monitor; any larger and it can take a while to adjust to the mass of space you have in front of you. I have used a 30″ Apple monitor for editing and it was simply too big to be honest.

The best chance of getting these types of files into Premiere is to convert them into an acceptable format using a programme such as Procoder. You’ll need to research the accepted source files for Procoder to check that they are supported, however.

What format is your footage in, and how was it captured? This will help determine which preset is best for you.

What is the spec of your system (motherboard/graphics card etc). Have they been varified by Matrox?

Also which build of X.tools have you installed?
