    What’s the GPU lie?

Hi Mike, this isn’t in relation to your error but I am just curious what you mean by (and how you go about) selecting to render from the CPU only.

Earlier versions of Vegas (I think 9c and below) will see this issue with the newer versions of Quicktime. It’s a known bug that was fixed in one of the 9 updates. I had this issue while running Vegas 9b. I reverted to Quicktime version 7.6.5 and it was resolved.

Thanks John, I suspected it was the 32bit OS issue.

When I do this, I take a screen grab of the very last frame and insert it in. Click the little disk icon on the top of your video preview to create the .jpg.

John, thanks for your cut and dry assessment. You have all given me a lot of info to move forward with.

Jeremy – thanks for your input. That is good to know about Sony support, that’s a huge deal for my department.

Here’s a bit about my scenario, to answer your question:
Within my department (web delivery for a news network), we are running Vegas on 11 machines (4 for editing, 7 for network rendering). We are testing HP z800s with the goal of upgrading our edit machines to them. Any type of software/OS upgrade must be presented to management with a detailed proposal, and such upgrades would involve our support staff.

So, it’s not necessarily that Win 7 64 isn’t an option for me, it’s that I need to compile as much data as possible before I propose making such a step, especially since we’d ideally want all 11 machines running the same OS/software. If this were my home office, I’d be much more open to trial and error. Since I often don’t have that option, I rely on the vast resource that is… you guys!

Thank you all for your input. Can someone please confirm that Vegas 9 64bit does work on XP 64? Again, the release notes only mention Vista 64 and so far we’ve all been talking about xp 32 or Win7 64.

What about the maximum number of render threads? Goes past 4 on the 64 bit version?

John, that was exactly it. Thank you for lending a hand, as usual.

VLC plays nearly anything. No reason to not try it out.
